Brigade staff helped veterans at the VJ Day celebrations this weekend. The volunteers assisted those who were unable to walk the parade route due to a lack of mobility, but wanted to participate with the aid of a wheelchair.
The anniversary paid tribute to those that served in the UK Armed Forces in the Far East, including those who served in the famous 14th Army in Burma that helped secure victory. The event also recognised Prisoners of War and civilian internees from the conflict.
Community Safety Deputy Manager Vanessa Skinner helped veterans at the parade. She described the celebration as “very humbling” and said it was “an honour to give a little back to those who gave up so much."

Firefighters will be demonstrating their skills at a road safety awareness event at the world famous Ace Café tomorrow.
The crews will be showing how they respond to road traffic collisions and along with paramedics from London Ambulance Service, will simulate a number of vehicle rescues which will also see them extricate casualties safely.
Ace Café is situated on North Circular Road in Stonebridge and was exceptionally popular in the 1950s with bikers; it is still a meeting point for anyone interested in motoring. The event will take place between 10am and 3pm.
