Tension mounts in Kos between migrants and the Greek police

Tension mounts in Kos, a small tourist island of Greece, became a point of arrival of migrants coming mostly from Afghanistan and Syria by Turkey. The mayor of Kos called for the state, it is estimated that over 500 migrants arrive every day, and says that "the blood to leak out and the situation from escalating." Overwhelmed by the presence of 7,000 migrants on the island, which has 30 000 inhabitants, the local police knocked migrants with batons and emptied fire extinguishers in the crowd.
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), over 224,000 refugees arrived in the Mediterranean since January, nearly 124,000 came from Greece, a figure seven times compared to 2014.
