Eleven people were killed and at least 68 injured Saturday, August 15 when a suicide car bomb in a predominantly Shiite neighborhood of northern Baghdad, authorities said.
The explosion targeted a place frequented by people who buy and sell cars in Sadr City, where two days ago a truck bomb claimed by the Sunni extremist group Islamic state (EI) left at least 54 dead and dozens injured in a market of fruits and vegetables.
Three attacks this week
The IU jihadists have also claimed responsibility for Saturday and said they had targeted a gathering of soldiers, police and Shiite, reported the website specialized in monitoring Islamic groups SITE. The EI claims that over 20 people were killed.
The group frequently seeks gathering places, such as cafes and shops, in neighborhoods of the Shiite community, these ultraradicaux Sunnis consider heretical.
Thursday's attack in Sadr City was one of the bloodiest in recent months in the Iraqi capital. This week, EI had already claimed responsibility for attacks which have killed 33 people Monday north of Baghdad.
