No Hydrants = destroyed Detroit home

Steve Neavling reports on a Thursday night fire at 4430 Maxwell – an occupied duplex dwelling.
Detroit firefighters scrambled for blocks in search of a working hydrant on the east side Thursday night but couldn’t find one as flames flattened a large, occupied duplex, scorched three neighboring houses and sent large embers onto nearby rooftops.Firefighters made an interior attack soon after arriving at 9:10 p.m. but were forced out five minutes later because of a lack of hydrant water.
Neavling reported on the hydrant problems last March. In that report he identified target hazards that had out of service hydrants.
The entire city infrastructure is suffering from deferred maintenance and repairs.
