The Onion Gets in on Humboldt Park Gentrification Narrative
When the headline reads, "Neighborhood Starting To Get Too Safe For Family To Afford," you know that even The Onion is aware of the wave of gentrification sweeping across the Humboldt Park neighborhood. Humboldt Park residents have been actively fighting to prevent an unbridled takeover of the neighborhood, but things are continuing to change as new homeowners and business owners move in. Some have speculated that the new 606 trail will lead to displacement, but home values and sales were on the rise well before the trail opened this summer. Although the new Onion story is purely tongue in cheek, there's always some truth behind satire.
