On May 31, 2013 Houston Fire Department Captain William “Iron Bill” Dowling was crushed and burned while responding to a 5-Alarm fire at the Southwest Inn in Houston, Texas.
HFD Station 68, including Captain Dowling, Ann Sullivan, and Robert Garner were the second due unit on the scene. Bill and his crew entered the burning building in search of victims and to extinguish the fire. Suddenly and most unexpectedly, the heavy tile roof collapsed.
