On this date August 5, in 1949 the "Mann Gulch" fire was a wildfire reported in a gulch located along the upper Missouri River in the Gates of the Mountains Wilderness, Helena National Forest, in the state of Montana in the United States. 
A team of 15 smokejumpers parachuted into the area on the afternoon of August 5, 1949 to fight the fire, rendezvousing with a former smokejumper who was employed as a fire guard at the nearby campground.

  • Robin Masters It should not matter whether it is career or volunteer they both go out there and put their life on the line and as a past fire police officer that was a volunteer it was a thankless job but I loved doing it and I retired as a 1st.Lt of the fire police for Fawn grove.

Our profession, this profession is looked at everyday by other members of the FD community and Civilians. How does it look and what type of example is being set when you, as a fireman are over weight and out of shape.

  • Trevor Tremblay That happened to me once me and my wife had just ordered our supper. The pager went of (I'm a volunteer) the call was a VSA. After the call I went back to meet my wife. We had a good meal and when the waiter brought us our bill she said a customer had paid for our meal.
