A screen grab of CCTV video at the Sathorn pier in Bangkok shows a bomb explode as it enters the water.

A pipe bomb tossed from a bridge to Bangkok’s Sathorn transit pier caused an explosion but no injuries or damage.
Assistant national police chief Prawut Thavornsiri said a improvised pipe bomb was thrown from the Sathorn bridge, but hit a pillar and bounced into a canal where it detonated harmlessly, sending up a large plume of water.
One half of the pier remained open with Chao Phraya River boat operations continuing as normal. Police closed Sathorn Road to traffic from the pier to the Saphan Taksin BTS station to investigate.
Pol Lt Gen Prawut believed the perpetrator wanted to throw the bomb onto a busy walking platform leading to the pier but missed. CCTV footage taken at the time of the explosion showed people running down a causeway over the canal to escape the blast.
Police initially dispatched divers into the canal to try to recover any surviving pieces of the bomb that Transport Minister Prajin Juntong called an "improvised explosive device". Later, sandbags and pumps were brought into to drain the impact area to hasten the search for evidence.
Sathorn pier is a major terminal linking Chao Phraya River commuter boats and the nearby Skytrain station. It's also a major tourist stop, especially for Chinese tour groups.
ACM Prajin said the Sathorn bomb was an IED that was thrown. An IED is also blamed for Monday's devastating explosion at the Erawan shrine that officially has left 20 dead and 125 injured.
A security camera captures the moment of explosion in Sathorn area.

The first time I came to Thailand was in the 70s. I fell in love with it then because a Thai people are honorable, goodwill, and blessed. These type's of actions are not part of the Thai spirit, or culture. Long live and bless the King

Some domestic terrorist are playing a very dangerous game. Sooner or later people will not like to reap the benefits what they have sown. Cry havoc and let the dogs of war. The government must protect the people of Thailand the the guest. Be careful on what you ask for. May God bless the King and Thailand, and it is the governments job to do that. There will be no PC and who cares what BBC and CNN left wing liberal socialist care.

Sorry I don't believe this is internal attacked. From the previous last evening bomb, the suspect caught on surveillance camera apparently looks middle eastern rather than local Thais. If the local Authority looked over the possibility of terrorist attacks, which would be more harmful crisis than usual political agenda. ISIS organisation may have caused these casualties at global levels. National security levels should be in red alert and due to the political crisis of the nation, the authorities may have shifted focus rather than consider these attacks as the world terrorists acts targeting tourists and financial areas.
