MY NEW VIDEO; HIGHLINE-WEST SIDE MANHATTAN

Many years ago, someone got the notion of preserving all this elevated railway track on the West Side of Manhattan and building a park on top of it.

Above: Gentrified Far Northwest Village, now cobblestoned plaza with fancy restaurant; below, where High Line starts on Gansevoort Street ( which I can remember from way back when it was just this incredibly seedy little side lane). In fact, I don't think ANYBODY would have thought of actually living there back then, not even artists looking for loft space...overrun with packs of rats at night, etc. Later when it became a little gentrfied, transvestite hookers trawled the area at night...

Starting from the now trendy Meat Packing District in the Far Northwestern part of Greenwich Village , the park trail now runs through a strange gamut of old and new architecture

Lots of plants, lots of tourists, lots of locals

Some parts of it are more interesting than others

It has been extended up to 34th Street...

Landscape architects drool over the thought of projects like this

A whole bunch of other cities have similar projects now too, including Paris and Chicago

Damn my luck! My camera jammed when I was trying to film a very interesting little alcove they have along the way where they have people building stuff with Lego like blocks..

What is most interesting about the High Line is the view of the ever changing Cityscape of densely built up Manhattan it provides

I saw no signs of porta- potties....there MANY stairs down to the street along the way ( and some elevators) and I guess they think you can find some place down there if you have to go

It kept acting like it was going to rain while I was there, but it never did..

A lot of people bring their own food and drink and there are eating  station areas along the way

The park seems longer than it is because of the crowded path and the mass of the many buildings of so many shapes and sizes that surround it

Worth seeing, and it opens up vistas in what once was a dreary industrial and commercial area ( LOTS of trendy housing there now)

See it at your own risk-

VIDEO SHOULD BE SEEN IN THEATER MODE OR FULL SCREEN...the camera movements are somewhat shaky quite often so be warned...
