Exactly one year ago today, Dr. Bob Kilroy—a member of our Los Angeles County Fire Department, Lifeguard Division—was struck by lightning in the ocean off Venice while teaching his daughter to surf. He went into cardiac arrest; lifeguards and paramedics were able to revive him. We're happy to report that Kilroy passed his swim check and has already spent several days as a lifeguard this summer!
A year after he was struck by lightning and revived by paramedics, Ocean Lifeguard Bob Kilroy is once again protecting beachgoers in Los Angeles County.

Check it out! Our paramedics have a new, high-tech tool to help them save even more lives. The X-Series Monitor Defibrillators come equipped with technology that distinguishes CPR compressions from the patient's underlying heart rhythm, so paramedics can check the heart rhythm without stopping CPR. // ZOLL EMS and Fire

The Los Angeles County Fire Department recently marked 10 years of providing fire safety and emergency medical services to the city of La Habra, California. Fire Captain Ernie Ramirez has been at Fire Station 191 in the city since Day 1, so it's no wonder that the La Habra Area Chamber of Commerce recognized him for his service! In honor of Throwback Thursday, here's a recently rediscovered photo from our archives.

Instead, the Fire Department, in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service, contracted with the U.S. Army to use this Sikorsky S51 to spread wild grass seed following a brush fire above La Cañada, according to retired Fire C...
