New exhibits, an alt-classical concert and a behind the scenes tour of the Hills this week!
PROGRAMS THIS WEEK:

BEHIND THE SCENES HARD HAT HILLS TOUR
Thurs Jul 30, 4:15 PM- 6 PM

Take a tour of the Hills rising on Governors Island! The Hills are currently under construction at the southern end of the new park. Made of recycled fill materials, the Hills will rise 25 to 70 feet above the Island, and the summit of the tallest Hill will provide visitors with a 360-degree panoramic view of the Harbor. Meet at the Liggett Hall Arch at 4:15 to get a behind the scenes look at these Hills as you climb to the top and experience an entirely new perspective on New York Harbor.

RITE OF SUMMER PRESENTS IMANI WINDS

More than North America’s premier wind quintet, Imani Winds has established itself as one of the most successful chamber music ensembles in the United States. Since 1997, the Grammy nominated quintet has taken a unique path, carving out a distinct presence in the classical music world with its dynamic playing, culturally poignant programming, adventurous collaborations, and inspirational outreach programs. Enjoy some of their live music this weekend!

NEW EXHIBITS:
Works by Å½eljka BlakÅ¡ić, Sara Mejia Kriendler, Amanda Turner Pohan and Claudia Sohrens are on display in the A.I.R. gallery as part of a group exhibition titled Enduring Ephemera.

See new work from A.I.R. fellows in downstairs gallery then head upstairs to see more than 40 small pieces by other A.I.R. artists. This is the final venue of a year-long traveling show that has been shown in Nashville, San Francisco, Princeton and St. Louis.


WE ARE NEW YORK CITY

An interactive exhibition of poetry and art featuring an interactive writing station and a pop-up children's library. Art and poetry from PS 1, PS 89, and PS 276 as well as murals by the Community Word Project are on display.

PICTURE THIS: NEW ORLEANS
Starts Sat Aug 1, Open every Sat & Sun from 11 AM- 5:30 PM
In April 2015, CNN Money commissioned iconic photographer Mary Ellen Mark for the project Picture This: New Orleans. The multimedia project documents New Orleans 10 years after it was ravaged by Hurricane Katrina. A month after returning from the trip, Mark passed away in New York. She was 75. These images are her last photographs.


INSIDER ART: WORKS FROM US PRISONS
Starts Wed Jul 22, Open every Wed, Thurs, Fri, & Sat from 11AM-5PM
INSIDER ART is a group exhibition featuring artwork by US prisoners.This exhibition seeks to open up a dialogue about incarceration reform and highlight issues and injustices within the US Penitentiary system.
