Main Street, Milltown. Services will be held Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Franklin Memorial Park, 1800 Rt. 27 in North Brunswick. Crabiel has posted an online obituary email guestbook here. A lifelong resident of Piscataway, Patel was on her last shift with Spotswood EMS when she was killed in the Line of Duty. [ more ]        Tweet   TN FIRE CHIEF SUFFERS HEART ATTACK  Sunday, July 26, 2015   Gibson County Fire Chief Bryan Cathey is in the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital after having a heart attack earlier today, according to the Gibson County Fire Department.Ryan Shanklin, assistant to Cathey, said Cathey is currently doing much better and will spend the night in the intensive care unit. Shanklin said Cathey had the heart attack while responding to a fire in Dyer at 10 a.m. No one was hurt in the fire, he said. "He's doing pretty good," Shanklin said. "He's a fighter."       Tweet   3 FFs EJECTED, 1 CIVILIAN DEAD IN TX APPARATUS CRASH  Sunday, July 26, 2015    Three firefighters were injured Sunday morning in a collision that left an 18-wheeler and an Irving fire truck on their sides.Emergency crews were called to Highway 183 near Beltline Road for an emergency involving a drunk driver. The 18-wheeler slammed into the fire truck, flipping both rigs, according to NBCDFW.com. The firefighters were ejected from their apparatus and the extent of their injuries is unknown. The driver of the tractor-trailer died at the scene, officials say. Several other vehicles were involved in the crash.       Tweet   FIREFIGHTERS TREATED FOR SMOKE INHALATION AT LONG ISLAND DWELLING FIRE  Sunday, July 26, 2015   Several first responders were treated for smoke inhalation and high blood pressure as firefighters battled hot spots after a fire destroyed a home on Wyandanch Lane in Southampton Village Saturday afternoon.According to Southampton Fire Department 1st Assistant Chief Chris Brenner, the fire was reported at 12:23 p.m. Saturday. Fire Chief Michael Kampf, who was in charge of the scene, was one of the first to respond and arrived while people were still evacuating the home. None of the home’s occupants were injured in the fire, according to authorities. The blaze, Chief Brenner said, is believed to have started in the kitchen before spreading to the rest of the house, which is not habitable. Chief Brenner was not sure how many firefighters were inured, but said several were transported via the Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance and Southampton Ambulance to Southampton Hospital for treatment of both smoke inhalation and elevated blood pressure. more ]       Tweet   FIREFIGHTER LINE OF DUTY DEATH-NY YANKEES AND BOSTON RED SOX  Sunday, July 26, 2015   A FUNDRAISER FOR THE FAMILY OF A NY FIREFIGHTER WHO WAS KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY AT A DWELLING FIRE-Help Pay Off Their Mortgage! [ more ]        Tweet   NJ FFs PAY IT FORWARD  Sunday, July 26, 2015   One act of kindness led to another in New Jersey when a waitress' decision to pay for some firefighters' breakfast prompted strangers to help her. Two firefighters stopped in a diner after an overnight shift containing a warehouse fire earlier this week and had breakfast at the Route 130 Diner in Delran, according to ABC News affiliate WPVI. A waitress, Liz Woodward, overheard the firefighters, Tim Young and and Paul Higgins, talking about the fire. That's when she decided to pay them back for their efforts, according to WPVI. She wrote a note on the back of the check -- complete with drawn fireman's helmet and ax. Young then shared a photo of the check, along with a call for his friends to visit the diner, and to "tip big" if they ever had Woodward as a waitress. He didn't stop there. He wrote another post highlighting a GoFundMe campaign that Woodward had started in December to pay for a wheelchair accessible van for her father. ... [ more ]        Tweet   UPDATE FROM POLICE RE NJ LODD EMS CRASH  Saturday, July 25, 2015    Units were dispatched to a serious motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Cranbury Road and Ryders Lane.  Mark C. Seube of Hamilton, NJ was operating a Spotswood ambulance on Ryders Lane near Cranbury Road. Hinal Patel of Piscataway, NJ was the front seat passenger. Both Mark Seube and Hinal Patel are EMTs with Spotswood EMS. The EMTs were responding to assist East Brunswick Rescue Squad as mutual aid at a motor vehicle crash with injuries in East Brunswick Township. Initial investigation revealed the ambulance, a 2008 Ford van, was traveling west on Ryders Lane at intersection with Cranbury Road. The vehicle had its emergency lights and sirens activated. The ambulance proceeded through the intersection and was struck by a 2013 Toyota Prius traveling south on Cranbury Road operated by Kathleen Meade of East Brunswick, NJ. [ more ]        Tweet   GA FF STRUCK AT BOOT DRIVE  Saturday, July 25, 2015    A firefighter in Habersham County collecting donations for the Empty Boot drive has been airlifted to Grady Hospital in Atlanta after being struck by a pick up truck Saturday morning while standing along Duncan Bridge Road. The Georgia State Patrol is working the incident at the intersection of Duncan Bridge (SR 384) and Mud Creek Roadwhich happened around 10:45. No names or further information is available at this time.        Tweet   UPDATE: 20 YEAR OLD EMT KILLED IN NEW JERSEY RESPONDING CRASH  Saturday, July 25, 2015   As you know, a Spotswood (MIddlesex Co, NJ) Emergency Medical Services EMT was killed in the Line of Duty this morning in a multi vehicle crash in East Brunswick, responding to a separate mutual aid crash, Reports are now that the 20 year old EMT who lost her life was working her final shift before starting medical school. At least three vehicles appeared to have been involved in the crash. The 2nd EMT is reported in critical condition. Law enforcement is identifying the young Spotswood EMT as Hinal Patel, from Piscataway, NJ. More to follow.        Tweet   APPARATUS CRASH IN WI  Saturday, July 25, 2015   A driver was hospitalized Friday morning with injuries that weren’t life-threatening after a crash with a La Crosse firetruck. Firefighters were responding to calls at 4135 and 4245 Fairway St. about 9 a.m., and the firetruck was operating with lights and sirens southbound on Hwy. 35 when a white pickup truck drove into the path of the firetruck turning turn left onto the highway from Walmart Drive, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol. The State Patrol, brought in for impartiality, will reconstruct the crash and determine which vehicle had the right of way. No firefighters were injured in the crash. Fire investigators suspect lightning struck gas lines leading to 4135 and 4245 Fairway St., according to the department. A small fire in the basement ceiling at 4135 Fairway St. left moderate damage and a separate fire at 4245 Fairway St. caused minor damage.       Tweet   SC FFs REMOVED FROM DUTY DUE TO WEIGHT  FOX Carolina 21 WHNS Video  Saturday, July 25, 2015   Fighting fires requires stamina and physical fitness. That’s why each year firefighters must undergo physicals.This March, three firefighters with Roebuck District Fire Department were removed from direct duty after failing their physicals. “That individual could drive the rig, they could drive the fire truck, but they could not put on any structural firefighting gear and they could not go into a fire fight,” said Roebuck Fire Captain Chris Harvey. One of those men is Matthew Newton. The 34-year-old weighed 325 pounds in March. “I was devastated,” Newton said. Being forced to sit on the sidelines gave Newton the motivation that he needed. “I had to better it for myself, so I said enough is enough, so finally realized if I want to keep doing it,” said Newton. [ more ]       Tweet   CA DEPUTY CHIEF LOSES BATTLE WITH CANCER  Saturday, July 25, 2015    He will be remembered as "well-loved and received" by his colleagues at the Fremont Fire Department, said Capt. Diane Hendry.His cancer was occupationally related and this is being considered a line-of-duty death. "It's been a long road," Hendry said. Martin was diagnosed with cancer three years ago and fought it for a year, she said. He returned to work with a "clean bill of health," but the cancer returned this year. "He spent the better part of this year fighting it again," Hendry said. Martin was just shy of his 30-year anniversary with the Fremont Fire Department. He climbed the ranks from captain, to battalion chief to deputy chief. Martin also spent several terms as the local union president. The fallen firefighter always made time for others, Hendry said. "He always made everybody feel like they were the most important person in that moment and gave them whatever time he had," she said. Martin... [ more ]       Tweet   NEW JERSEY EMT KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY-2nd EMT CRITICAL FOLLOWING A CRASH WHILE RESPONDING  Saturday, July 25, 2015    We regret to pass on that an EMS crew member was killed in the Line of Duty and another was critically injured after an ambulance responding crash this morning. A Spotswood ambulance (Middlesex County) was responding to assist at a crash in East Brunswick when it collided with a civilian car at about 0800 hours at the intersection of Ryder Lane and Cranbury Road. One EMT in the ambulance was pronounced dead at the scene. A second EMT in the ambulance was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center in critical condition. No patients were in the ambulance at the time. More details to follow. RIP.       Tweet   UT FF & BOY BURNED WHEN 70 LARGE FIREWORKS LAUNCH IN FIREHOUSE  Saturday, July 25, 2015    One firefighter was taken to the hospital with severe burns after fireworks ignited inside the Marysvale fire station on Thursday.According to Piute County Sheriff Marty Gleave, a firefighter was getting the fireworks ready for the town's Pioneer Day show. In the process of putting electric charges into tubes, a charge ignited and caused one of the fireworks to explode, setting off a chain reaction causing about 70 other large fireworks to explode inside the building. A 13-year-old boy was also injured in the blast. He was treated for burns and respiratory problems. While the explosion didn't start a fire inside of the station, the small town's ambulance and fire truck were damaged. The fire truck remains usable, but the ambulance is currently out of commission.
