LACK OF STAFFING CONTRIBUTES TO FIREFIGHTER INJURIES. WELL, NO SH!T !

Monday, June 1, 2015   Two Lake County (Florida) Firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion while fighting fires in recent weeks, and an official report points to lack of manpower as the cause.  A report filed after the incident cites lack of manpower and equipment as a factor in one of the firefighters’ injuries for heat exhaustion. “Firefighter Greenough was exposed to the early summer temperature and continued to work due to lack of personnel and lack of proper rehab,” Lt. Robert Fickett’s report states. “Fire rescue has a policy for scene rehab and heat stress management but is unable to adhere to the policy due to lack of equipment and staffing.” That conclusion does not surprise local fire union leaders, who have long asserted that the fire department does not have adequate manpower to fight fires quickly.
