NEW DELHI: The Congress is likely to ask its state units for lists of people who can make substantial one-time donations, in a novel method of resource mobilization after the party has been relegated to the opposition and appears in need of money.
Around 200-250 individuals favourably inclined towards Congress would be asked for a "lump sum donation" in each state. It may be between Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh. The idea has been conveyed to some states and is likely to be rolled out nationally, sources said.
The new measure would fetch a handsome corpus for the party that lost power at the Centre, though it is ruling in some crucial states.

However, the bid to net a handful of big contributors is devised to collect a large sum in a short time. "The total money generated could be very high," an AICC office-bearer said, reflecting the high expectations from the new drive. A senior AICC functionary, who has informally sounded out states under his supervision for the shortlist , called it a "good idea". But he added that it should have been implemented when the party was in power.
The quick thinking of pressing the donation button immediately after being pushed out of power shows an eagerness to firewall the party.
Among big expenditure lined up is the construction of a new party headquarters on Rouse Avenue. The Centre has slapped an eviction notice on AICC, stating that the allotment of 24, Akbar Road stood cancelled as three years had passed since the handing over of land on Rouse Avenue.

Hope all corporates jusy boycott them - the way they have been painting them as villains
antidemocratic dynasty and mindless sycophancy. The probable donors whoever they are should think twice as the congress is disruptive in parliament and not allowing the elected Govt. to function in spite of several good measures it has taken.
