Friends of Firefighters Cookbook
DEADLINE APPROACHING: Reminder that completed forms and recipes are asked to be submitted by May 31, 2015
Calling all active & retired FDNY firehouse chefs to submit your recipes!
The firefighters who have helped to build Friends of Firefighters have brought their love of cooking in the firehouse to the organization, evident through our monthly On the Arm Breakfasts, the dish contributions to our Annual Fall Gala, and invitations to firehouse meals.
As a way to recognize the significant role that food plays among firefighters, we are producing The Friends of Firefighters Cookbook, complete with recipes and anecdotes from FDNY firefighters. All proceeds will allow us to continue to provide independent, confidential, and free counseling and wellness services to you and your families.
May is Mental Health Month
Some important facts that we have shared so far:
- 1 in 5 American adults will have a diagnosable mental health condition in any given year.
- There are 4 stages of mental health conditions, just like other health conditions, ranging from mild to severe.
- Early intervention is cost effective; the earlier that mental health problems are caught and treated, the less it costs and the better the results.
- There are many forms of treatment, such as counseling, peer support, acupuncture, and biofeedback, all of which FoF offers.
FoF provides free mental health services to active and retired FDNY firefighters and your family members. For a full list of our services, scroll down or visit our website.
Congratulations / Checkpoint Charlie Scholarship
Congratulations to Louis Pisicolo, recent recipient of the City of Berlin Checkpoint Charlie Scholarship. Louis is the son of a retired FDNY Lieutenant and is finishing up his freshman year of college.
The Checkpoint Charlie Scholarship is open to college-age children with parents who were either killed or whose health was permanently impaired as a result of the attacks on September 11, 2001.
Full conditions of eligibility, scholarship details, and the application can be found on our website. We encourage eligible students who are entering college, as well as those who are already enrolled, to apply.
Thank You / Bravest FoundationFriends of Firefighters would like to thank The Bravest Foundation for presenting the organization with a $10,000 donation at their Annual Awards Dinner, held this month. Our co-chair and active FDNY firefighter, Ralph Taliento, accepted the check on behalf of the organization from .
