Mischief by name, Mischief by nature! Crews rescued this stallion earlier after he became stuck on his side in a ditch at a farm in Pinner.
The 22-year-old 15 hands high horse was unable to get out of the ditch, so firefighters dug out the embankment to give him some extra room before helping him to his feet. Fortunately despite the ordeal Mischief was uninjured.

  • Chris Blackburn Thanks to all who turned out to help Mischief at the farm today. The LFB arrived so quickly. Please please everyone tell the powers that be that we need the Fire Brigades to help with horse rescue. Please don't stop- not that we want to see you guys that regularly!

  • Paul Charles And the government won't look after these firefighters by paying them properly and looking after them when they retire!!! Wrong -remember this when voting.........

Our thoughts are with all those affected by the earthquake in Nepal. Five specially trained London firefighters are flying to Kathmandu as part of an International Search and Rescue team (ISAR) to help recovery operations there. The UK ISAR team is being deployed with 14.5 tonnes of equipment including specialised cameras, acoustic and seismic listening devices and search dogs to detect people trapped under rubble. You can make a donation to support the rescue and aid efforts via the Red Cross website: http://www.redcross.org.uk/…/Make-a…/Nepal-Earthquake-Appeal. Pics below from an LFB exercise.

Good luck to all our runners taking part in today's 35th London Marathon. Each year our staff raise thousands of pounds for charity by completing the 26.2 mile course. As well as the 50 firefighters and support staff actually running, we also provide volunteers to hand out water and marshal sections of the course. Below is a shot from our archives of Brigade runners taking part in a photo-call for the 2006 marathon. And don't forget - if you're going down to lend your support and see a runner wearing one of our vests make sure you cheer them on!

Take a look at this historic photo that we were recently sent. It shows ‘Nora and Rozney’, who were the last pair of horses used to attend incidents before the first motor driven appliances were introduced.
Their last “turnout” was from Kensington High Street Fire Station on Thursday, November 24, 1921.

This shocking photo from a Streatham house fire our crews attended this week really brings home the devastating damage just one candle can do if it's left unattended. Two people were taken to hospital but were thankfully discharged the same day. Follow our candle safety tips and share them with your family and friends to help us stop this happening to other's: http://www.london-fire.gov.uk/UsingCandles.asp

We may only be in April but as the ground dries out the risk of grass fires increases. These pictures show our crews tackling blazes yesterday at Bostall Heath near Abbey Wood and at allotments in East Ham where burning bonfire embers ignited a compost heap. Follow and share these tips to help us prevent these potentially devastating fires from happening: http://www.london-fire.gov.uk/GrassFires.asp

Happy 89th Birthday to Her Majesty The Queen.
Here are some pictures from her visit to our old headquarters in Lambeth, as part of celebrations for her Silver Jubilee in 1977.

Yesterday our firefighters were called to a major building collapse in central London. The six storey block on Portugal Street in Aldwych was under refurbishment and collapsed between its fifth and second floors. Two fire engines and three fire rescue units attended and crews gave first aid to an injured man on the scene until London Ambulance Service arrived. Around 200 people were evacuated from the area. A woman was led to safety by neighbours after a discarded cigarette caused this fire in her Balham home at the weekend. Around one third of all fires in London's homes are caused by smoking. Read our top tips on how you can prevent this from happening to you: http://www.london-fire.gov.uk/Smoking.asp
Sylvester Stallone's bread ad became toast in Ladywell this week. It was Rocky for a time with some Judge Dread but The Specialists used their loaf and got it under control with no injuries. Puns welcomed.
