Verizon NYC continues to screw its landline customers

After Hurricane Sandy, thousands of Verizon customers in lower Manhattan found their phone service had been knocked out..

Verizon just never restored service to most of these people and they had to find some other option.

NOW, Verizon is pulling something similar to its "Lifeline" customers, people with disabilities and low incomes who get discounted service.

In December, people in NYC with this service were billed at the regular rates ( more than doubling the phone bill ) and told they customers IT WAS THEIR FAULT because they had not " renewed their disability status credentials."

Nobody had been asked to renew these, of course..

Verizon then told everyone who had had Lifeline service they must reapply.
In the meantime, they must go ahead and pay their inflated bills for December.

In other words, Verizon's mistake and problem has become THEIR problem.

Just as after Sandy, a lot of these customers will see if they can transfer their Lifeline status to cell phones or to another company like Time Warner ( which has problems of its own).

Verizon's operators at its "Customers with Disabilities" service center have been told to try and blame the whole thing on the State of NY.

People who were screwed over after Sandy , after being told they would get their service restored and then of course never having that happen, know perfectly well how Verizon operates...

Verizon meanwhile as ever is touting its FIOS service abroad like crazy, because that is where they can make more money.

Companies like Verizon are symptomatic of all that is wrong with America generally...

And can anyone do anything about it? Of course not. Republicans will block any bills that force corporations to behave responsibly and keep pushing the hoax that a) corporations are "persons" when it comes to their "rights" --such as giving as much money as they want to political candidates without disclosing it, and then, on the other hand are still impersonal entities when it comes to lawsuits....so no individuals repsonsible for any wrongdoing can ever go to jail or anything. Wall Street has been getting away with tricks like this and more for years as have big banks and the gullible public meanwhile votes for people like Scott Walker, who tells them that UNIONS are the source of all their problems and are like ISIS.

Well, there are plenty of stupid Americans who will buy this so someone like Walker may very well get the nomination to be the next Republican Presidential candidate.

Oh, and by the time he runs, it looks like the economy will have rebounded from the mess Bush and the GOP made of it...which Walker will somehow try to say was because of government shutdown threats and cutting off spending to National Parks etc.

The average Russian is all behind Putin, and it looks like the average American may be no better when it comes to being bamboozled by people who know how to push the right buttons in manipulating it.
