BENGALURU: The sports ministry's plan to prepare medal winners for the 2016 Rio Olympics and beyond has hit a roadblock with the cream of India's athletes looking at the copious funding promised by the Centre with suspicion.
The chief concern is the contract that binds athletes to restrictive clauses. The government's key stipulation is that it will back the athletes only if they end ties with private organizations providing them technical and monetary support.
The government's Target Olympic Podium (TOP) project was scheduled to begin in January, but a majority in the core group of 75 players is yet to sign on the dotted line.
