Smell Gas. Act Fast. • Gas smells similar to rotten eggs. If you smell it, you could have a gas leak. • If you suspect a leak, leave the area immediately, and take others with you. • Don’t turn lights or appliances off or on, make phone calls, start a car, or spark lighters – doing so could cause gas to explode. • If the odor is faint, open a window before leaving. • Once you’re at a safe distance, call 911 or 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633).
