The Mayors office confirms that Darryl Gordon, 54, is the first Cincinnati Firefighter to die in the line of duty since 2003. Mayor John Cranley is holding an 1100 press conference to discuss the incident. A second Cincinnati firefighter and some residents were hurt when flames ran through the second floor of a building at King Tower Apartments on Dahlgren Street about 5:30 a.m. "We could just use the community's prayers, the prayers for the family, we have one of our brothers in dire straits," Fire Chief Richard Braun said at the scene. The other firefighter hurt has second-degree burns, and residents suffered smoke inhalation when flames broke out on the second floor shortly after 5:30 a.m., the Chief said. Much More To Follow.         FIREFIGHTER DOWN-CINCINNATI FIREFIGHTER UPDATE  Thursday, March 26, 2015   There are media reports as well as reports from the University of Cincinnati Hospital that the Firefighter who was critically injured this morning has died in the Line of Duty. However, the City of Cincinnati has not issued anything yet-but there is a news conference scheduled for 1100 hours this morning.  Local media outlets include: www.WCPO.com www.WLWT.com www.Fox19.com www.cincinnati.com more ]         FIREFIGHTER DOWN-MAYDAY AT WORKING FIRE  Thursday, March 26, 2015   Grimm news this morning from Cincinnati from the scene of a multi alarm working fire with occupants trapped. Most of the injuries are reported minor, but a CFD Firefighter was very seriously hurt. He was reportedly unresponsive about 0620 hours after falling down an elevator shaft at the King Tower Apartments off Dahlgren Street. The firefighter was rescued around 0638 hours and crews removed him from the building.Video below shows some activity from the scene: http://tinyurl.com/nf96ea9          FF BURNED IN MA  Thursday, March 26, 2015     A firefighter was injured responding to a fire at a two-story home on Sewall Street this afternoon. When the first crews arrived at 15 Sewall St., they were told a child may have been trapped in the home, according to Fire Chief Steven Pasdon. Several searches were conducted but nobody was found, Pasdon said. During the search, a firefighter in the home was burned and had to be taken to an area hospital as firefighters fought back the flames, Pasdon said. The department hasn't yet identified the firefighter pending notification of family, Pasdon said. Pasdon said he didn't believe the burns were serious. The fire chief couldn't yet say how or where the fire started. There was heavy exterior damage seen on the back of the building, and heavy interior damage on both floors was visible from the street. [ more ]         APPARATUS CRASH IN PHILLY  Wednesday, March 25, 2015    At least one person was hurt in an accident involving a fire truck and another vehicle in the Olney section of the city early Wednesday evening.The crash occurred on 3rd and Grange Streets. One person was transported to the Einstein Medical Center with injuries. Officials have not yet revealed his or her condition. A civil lawsuit against Quinn and the city are still pending. Jack Frazier, the motorcyclist who was struck by the fire truck that Quinn was driving around 11:30 p.m. on June 29, 2013, in the city’s South of Market neighborhood, is represented by attorney Chuck Koro. Koro, who specializes in cases of people who have been in motorcycle accidents, said the collection of evidence in the case was “bungled” in Quinn’s favor, but that this isn’t just about Quinn. [ more ]         CHICAGO FF STRUCK BY AERIAL LADDER  YouTube Video  Wednesday, March 25, 2015   An eyewitness captured video of a close call where a firefighter operating on the roof was struck by an aerial ladder.The March 23 commercial building fire occurred in the 2200 block of West Grand. Video footage that's shot across he street from the fire shows firefighters exiting the roof as flames begin to break through. A firefighter is shown looking over a parapet wall (at 2:00) when it appears he is struck by the aerial ladder that is being moved. The firefighter stumbles into the parapet and their helmet drops to the ground. A part of the chimney next to the firefighter is also knocked loose and falls to the ground. One firefighter suffered non-life threatening injuries in a fall, according to tweets from the Chicago Fire Department. A second firefighter was also injured.         MAN ON BATH SALTS ATTACKS FL CHIEF OFFICER  Tuesday, March 24, 2015   A Volusia County Fire Services battalion chief was attacked by a man apparently high on bath salts when the chief stopped to help a woman the suspect had frightened by jumping on her vehicle’s hood and head-butting her windshield, deputies said.Investigating deputies said Battalion Chief Michael Inglett was headed to the fire station on Glenwood Road near Spring Garden Avenue at 2:54 p.m. Friday when he saw Richard Keefer, 35, running down the middle of the road. Keefer jumped and dove head-first onto the hood of a Kia, reports show. Keefer caused three large dents to the hood of the car and cracked a large part of the center portion of the windshield, deputies said. The driver of the Kia stopped the vehicle and started screaming, deputies said. Inglett approached Keefer, sprawled on the hood of the vehicle, and asked him what was going on. [ more ]         MEDIC TICKETED IN SC AMBULANCE CRASH  WMBFNews.com, Myrtle Beach/Florence SC, Weather WMBF Video  Monday, March 23, 2015   In Horry County Fire Rescue worker has been cited after an ambulance stationed in the Red Bluff community was involved in an accident on Highway 905 Sunday night while transporting a patient, according to an HCFR media alert. HCFR crews responded to the accident at about 10:45 p.m. Sunday on Highway 905 at Freemont Road and found the medic unit on its side and a second vehicle in a ditch, the alert states. Crews quickly accessed both vehicles and extricated all patients from both vehicles. Three patients from the ambulance and two from the other vehicle were transported to a nearby hospital, and are currently in stable condition “Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved in this accident and we hope that they all recover quickly from any injuries sustained,” the alert states. [ more ]         2 FFs INJURED AT FIRE IN ROCK HILL, SC  YouTube Video  Monday, March 23, 2015    Two firefighters were reportedly injured while battling a house fire in York County Monday.The fire broke out Monday afternoon at a home on Volunteer Drive, in west Rock Hill near Highway 5. According to the Newton Fire Department (NFD), an explosion was reported at the home. Two firefighters were injured in the incident, according to the York County Sheriff's Office and NFD. Their names and the extent of their injuries have not been released, but Newport firefighters said both were taken to local hospitals. WBTV's Sky 3 was over the fire where heavy smoke and flames could be seen coming from what appeared to be a one-story home. The home appeared to be heavily damaged. Investigators have not said how the fire may have started, or if any other injuries were reported.         OHIO FF COMMITS SUICIDE IN THE FIREHOSUE  Monday, March 23, 2015   An Athens County volunteer firefighter died this morning at the fire station from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the head, Sheriff Rodney Smith said.  Christopher D. [ more ]   CHAIN REACTION APPARATUS CRASH IN TX INVOLVING PD AS WELL  Monday, March 23, 2015   Four firefighters and a driver were injured when a truck hit a police cruiser, which then slammed into a fire truck early Monday morning in Fort Worth.The accident occurred at I-35W at Golden Triangle Boulevard north of 287 as police and firefighters worked to clear the scene from an earlier wreck. According to police, the driver of a truck hit an unoccupied police cruiser, which then rammed the fire truck. The truck was flipped onto its top during the crash and the police cruiser left mangled. Three of the firefighters were transported to Harris Methodist Hospital with minor injuries. Authorities say the firefighters reported neck and back pain after the crash. All three firefighters were released from the hospital later in the morning. Another firefighter and the driver of the truck were treated at the scene. The cause of the crash is under investigation.   2 CHICAGO FFs INJURED AT COMMERCIAL BUILDING FIRE  Monday, March 23, 2015   Two firefighters were injured while battling a fire in the West Town neighborhood on the North Side early Monday.The fire was called in at 2:41 a.m. at a one-story commercial building in the 2200 block of West Grand, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Jeff Lyle said. Neither firefighter had life-threatening injuries, according to Fire Media Affairs. One was hurt from a fall and was taken to Rush University Medical Center, Lyle said. The second firefighter’s specific injuries or hospital information was not known. Crews were getting ready to leave the scene by 4:30 a.m., according to Fire Media Affairs. The damage to the building or a preliminary cause was not immediately known.         3 BOSTON JAKES INJURED AT FIRE  Monday, March 23, 2015   Three firefighters were injured Sunday in a blaze in Boston's West Roxbury neighborhood. The fire broke out 74 Manthorne Road at 1:10 p.m. Everyone was able to get out, but responders were forced to pull units from the house because of wind. The cause is not yet known, but the fire began in an enclosed porch and spread from there. The firefighters' injuries are not life-threatening. They were transported to Faulkner Hospital.
