Dear EMS1 Subscriber,
There is great variability in EMS training, equipment and scope of practice from place to place. Medics in Indiana are training to use portable ultrasound for cardiac arrest and trauma patients. One thousand miles south, paramedics in Florida are driving ambulances with 200,000 or miles that are increasingly breaking down.

Although the causes of the variation between EMS systems are numerous and wildly complex, there is power in better understanding the legal and legislative processes that impact EMS. And when you get a call for a well-being check, make the most of it because it might be more valuable than any machine or vehicle you will ever operate.
