Colombia hit by 6.2 magnitude earthquake

Workers in Bogotá were forced to leave the buildings downtown due to the quake.
A 6.2 magnitude earthquake hit Colombia today, shaking buildings in several cities including the capital, Bogota, where residents poured into the streets, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The quake's epicenter was located near the eastern city of Bucaramanga, about 272 kilometers (169 miles) northeast of Bogota, according to the US Geological Survey. But at 147 km (91 miles) below ground, the temblor was deep, which tends to limit the amount of damage caused.
"We know of no serious impact up to now," said Oscar Ivan Marquez, from the presidency's Risk Management office which coordinates emergency response.
Local radio said the quake was also felt strongly in Medellin, the Andean country's second biggest city. Venezuelan cities near the border, including Maracaibo and San Cristobal, also felt the quake, according to local media.
Cellphone networks were initially jammed in the minutes following the earthquake.
