Arch Madness 2015: Round Three
Down to the Elite Eight, this tournament of great AIA Twenty-Five Year Award winners includes projects by Louis Kahn, Frank Lloyd Wright, Fay Jones, I.M. Pei, and other legendary architects.
The competition is heating up as #ArchMadness2015 enters its third round of eight finalists. The tournament began with 32 of the most recent AIA Twenty-Five Year Award winners—buildings 25 to 35 years old that are recognized for their architectural excellence. From Round One emerged a crop of 16 of the greatest award-winning projects that brought some interesting Round Two matchups, notably two Louis Kahn–designed art galleries (Yale Center for British Art vs. Kimbell Art Center) and some interesting residential architecture (Bruce Goff's Bavinger House vs. Moore Lyndon Turnbull Whitaker's Sea Ranch Condominium I). Voter turn out increased from 500+ to 800+ ballots from the first to second round. Here's a breakdown of the results:
Ranked by year that the project won the AIA Twenty-Five Year Award, the remaining eight contenders are iconic designs that have withstood the test of time. To learn more about each competitor, click on the project name to find the project gallery page.
