Training Institute for Mental Health- Sweet Melancholy and Song-

Presents

Sweet Melancholy: Expressions of Object Loss in Song
Lee Kramer, LCSW
March 27th, 2015 7:00 - 9:00 PM
How is it that songs full of the pain of lost or unrequited love can provide such great pleasure? Using psychoanalytic concepts from Freud, Storr, and Reik, I will attempt to answer this puzzlement, while exploring the variety of experiences expressed in song.  My hope is that the recordings I play (ranging from the 14th century to the present day) will give great pleasure, as well as stimulate both thought and deep feeling.

Lee Kramer, LCSW, is currently the Executive Director of the Training Institute for Mental Health, where he also teaches and supervises. His passion for music and literature began in high school. After finishing a masters in English in 1976, he worked as a classical record salesman at the Record Hunter in Manhattan. Lee has presented at TI and for the New York State Society for Clinical Social Workers on many occasions. He is in private practice of psychoanalytic psychotherapy in Manhattan and Long Island.
