On this date 75 years ago, the second full-length animated Walt Disney film, Pinocchio, premiered at the Center Theater in NYC. The morality tale was based on the Italian children's novel, but with more sympathetic characters and a Jiminy Cricket that was transformed into a comical and wise partner. The film, with its highly realistic hand-drawn animation effects, was a box office flop but today is considered among Disney's finest feature films. (1940)
