Stanton, a former Marine and current cub-scout master was a volunteer Firefighter at Sandy Springs Fire Department. FF Stanton was assisting with a wreck that had already occurred when he was struck by a vehicle. ARREST: 64-year-old Charles Pickens was driving a 2004 Chevy Suburban that hit Stanton. Pickens  went around emergency equipment and struck Stanton in the roadway--and then Pickens drove away from the scene. Cops tracked down Pickens at his home a short time later. Pickens was charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in death and leaving the scene of an accident and is currently being held in the Anderson County Detention Center as is expected to face a judge this afternoon. Updates are at more ]         UPDATE: ARREST MADE IN SC FIREFIGHTER STRUCK BY CAR LODD Monday, February 16, 2015   A man has been charged in a deadly hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a volunteer firefighter in Anderson County last night. The South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the fatal crash on US-76 at Sandy Springs Road about 2100 hours.m Firefighter Kenneth Stanton of Pendleton, 52, was transported to the hospital for injuries suffered in the wreck. FF Stanton suffered head trauma and succumbed to injuries in the hospital shortly thereafter. Stanton was a volunteer firefighter at Sandy Springs Fire Department. He said Stanton was assisting with a wreck that had already occurred when he was struck by a vehicle. ARRESTED: Troopers said 64-year-old Charles Pickens was driving the 2004 Chevy Suburban that hit Stanton. Troopers said Pickens went around emergency equipment and struck Stanton in the roadway. [ more ]        RIP   FF IN INDIA BURNED AT BUSH FIRE Monday, February 16, 2015   A fireman was injured and rail traffic affected for over an hour when a dried up thicket along the railway tracks near Varkala caught fire on Sunday. Fireman Mukesh Kumar (33) of Varkala fire station suffered burns on his hands when he fell on molten plastic while trying to douse the fire. He was sent home after treatment at a nearby hospital. Though the reason for the blaze was not immediately known, unconfirmed reports said someone had tossed lit footwear on to the dry grass. The fire, noticed on the thicket on the western side of the tracks at Kallumalakunnu near Venniyodu, was noticed around 11am. Two fire tenders from Varkala and Attingal took over an hour to douse the fire that destroyed the clump running for about 1.5km along the tracks. more ]         CHIEFS BUGGY STRUCK ON THE HIGHWAY IN CT Monday, February 16, 2015    An emergency response vehicle was struck in the rear by a high-speeding car on Saturday, Feb. 14 while parked on the left shoulder to provide assistance to a car stuck on a guard rail.The emergency response vehicle, a 2009 Chevrolet Suburban, had just come from assisting on a car accident on Route 2 East, exit 5b with three other emergency response vehicles, and had stopped on the way back to the fire station upon discovering another accident at exit 5a.  The accident in question was a car stuck on the center median guard rail separating east bound and west bound traffic.  The emergency response vehicle, occupied by the Deputy Chief and the apparatus operator, parked on the left should with all warning devices activated. After checking on the driver in the car stuck on the guard rail, the apparatus operator was returning to the emergency response vehicle when it was rear-ended by a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. [ more ]         FIREFIGHTER STRUCK AND KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY - SOUTH CAROLINA Monday, February 16, 2015   We regret to pass on to you that a Kenneth Stanton, a Firefighter in Sandy Springs (Anderson County) was struck and killed in the Line of Duty this evening, Sunday.Initial reports are that the crash, on US-17, occurred at around 2100 hours. Stanton, 52, was operating at the scene of a previous crash when he struck by a vehicle. The former Marine and now volunteer Firefighter was immediately treated and transported but succumbed to his injuries. This incident may also be a hit and run-that's not yet been confirmed. Our condolences to all those affected.        FF STANTON, RIP   FIREFIGHTER/EMT's STRUCK ON INTERSTATE-SERIOUSLY INJURED Sunday, February 15, 2015  At just after midnight this morning, units from (Montgomery County, Maryland) stations 710, 711, and 726 were operating on the inner loop of I-495 just past River Road. As the crew from Ambulance 711 was assessing the occupants sitting in a car along the right shoulder before the primary accident scene, ambulance crew, the original vehicle , and the ambulance  was stuck by a pickup. This impact injured two (2) of the four (4) members of Ambulance 711’s crews and entrapped the original occupants sitting in the car. Additional resources were called and  patient care was initiated. The  two injured members of Ambulance 711’s crew received serious injuries and were transported to Suburban Hospital trauma center with serious life threatening injuries. The other two crew members where un-injured. The original three occupants of the car had to be extricated from the vehicle and all three were taken to Medstar trauma center. More to ... [ more ]   FIREFIGHTER SERIOUSLY HURT IN HAWAII Hawaii News Now - KGMB and KHNL KHNL Video Saturday, February 14, 2015   A firefighter with the Honolulu Fire Department was seriously injured Friday when when a strong gust of wind nearly blew him off a roof he was repairing in Kaneohe."We were dispatched to Kanaka Street to address a blown roof here," said Honolulu Fire Capt. Stewart Williams of the Kalihi Kai fire station. "My firefighters along with several other crews from the area were in the process of addressing the roof when unfortunately a firefighter got injured." A high gust of wind lifted a tarp on the roof, which then threw the firefighter into the air. He was then slammed hard onto the roof. Fire crews stopped work on the roof to tend to his injuries. A large group of firefighters carried him to a waiting ambulance, which transported him to the Queen's Medical Center in serious condition with hip and back injuries. Saturday, February 14, 2015   Randy Parker was just three days old when his mother was told to prepare for his death. Gwen Dixon had given birth to a 3 pound 5 ounce boy, two months early, at Robins Air Force Base Hospital. His weight dropped to 2 pounds 15 ounces. Doctors gave up hope. “To live, he has to learn to breathe,” they told her. He continually stopped drawing breath in those early days, too premature for his lungs to function instinctively. She prayed fervently. “I’ve always called him my miracle baby,” Dixon said Friday. “After I got off my knees, he never stopped breathing again.” In 1992, Parker had another close call when he was hit by a vehicle while out jogging. “He has been close to death twice before and by God’s grace, he pulled through,” she said.
