It has been announced that Jozef Oleksy, the former Prime Minister who was forced to resign over accusations of spying for Russia, died this morning following a long battle with cancer. Mr Oleksy was 68-years of age.
Poland’s Prosecutor General Office has received a requested from America to extradite film maker Roman Polanski, reports TVN24 this week.

1913 - Edward Gierek is born. The former communist leader, who died in 2001, still divides public opinion with some fondly remembering his period of rule in the 1970s. The Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) suggested that 2013 be Gierek Year.
