FIREFIGHTERS EMPLOY DEFENSIVE ATTACK AT RUTHERFORD (NJ) FIRE
01/20/2015
At around 03:00 on January 14, 2015, firefighters from the Rutherford (NJ) Fire Department responded to an automatic fire alarm. On arrival, a working fire was discovered in the two-story ordinary building housing a cafe on the first floor and offices above.'
Companies forced entry and started an interior attack, however the fire had gained too much headway and, with conditions rapidly deteriorating, all members were ordered out of the building. Firefighters commenced a defensive attack to control the fire and keep it out of the attached exposures on both sides.
With heavy fire on both floors in the rear, the fire made its way into the cockloft and broke through the roof, which eventually collapsed. The fire went to three alarms with numerous mutual aid companies assisting Rutherford firefighters. Even with temperatures in the low teens, no injuries were reported. The fire was held to the building of origin and placed under control just after 05:00.
