Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation Raises Funds for Police Officers' FamiliesFire Commissioner Daniel Nigro speaks at the announcement.
The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation announced on Jan. 7 that they raised more than $1 million to pay NYPD Police Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu’s full mortgages.
During the announcement at the Conrad Hotel in Manhattan, Foundation CEO Frank Siller said the campaign, which officially launched on Dec. 26, received $860,000 in donations and $150,000 in pledges in less than two weeks.
“We were guided by my brother,” he said, referring to Firefighter Stephen Siller, Squad 1, who was killed on Sept. 11, 2001. “We know your pain will never go away, but you can have a good life if you turn it around and do something good.”
The families will have their mortgages paid immediately and the charity is offering to complete any home repairs they need. All the money raised in the campaign will go to the two families.
“To be a part of this is profound,” Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro said. “I’m proud of the efforts our members have made to support the NYPD over these last two weeks.”
