FDNY chief saves goose with kayak
This bird is sitting pretty after a New York fire chief took his kayak on a wild goose chase to save the injured animal near the Tappan Zee Bridge.
FDNY Battalion Chief Dan Murray learned about the stranded, hurt goose from a concerned local resident and decided to take a gander to see if he could help it.
He braved choppy waters in his tiny watercraft to net the bird and bring it to safety for treatment.
“It was with other geese and birds, but it was like a fish out of water,’’ said Nyack resident June Gooch-Wagenberg, who first spotted the wounded bird and told Murray about it.
