Best known for starring as the bungling castaway Gilligan on Gilligan's Island, Bob Denver got his start in acting while studying law at Loyola University in Los Angeles. His first major TV role was that of lazy beatnik Maynard G. Krebs in The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis (1959–1963). After playing Gilligan, Denver starred in two other series with little success, The Good Guys and Dusty's Trail. He died on September 2, 2005, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Born on January 9, 1935, in New Rochelle, New York, Bob Denver is best known for starring as the bungling castaway Gilligan on Gilligan's Island.Denver got his start in acting while studying law at Loyola University in Los Angeles. His first major television role was that of lazy beatnik Maynard G. Krebs on the CBS show The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, which he performed from 1959 to 1963.
When Gilligan's Island premiered in 1964, the critics panned it, and the show was canceled in 1967. But when it ran in syndicated reruns during the 1970s, new audiences—particularly children—loved it, launching both the show and Denver into television cult status.

Later Life

Following his stint as Gilligan, Denver starred in two other series with little success, The Good Guys and Dusty's Trail. Later in his career, Denver continued to cash in on his Gilligan fame with cartoon series, guest star stints and personal appearances.
Denver died on September 2, 2005, at the age of 70, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
