Today in History- History.Orb

Actually, the event that interests me most is the flood in 1287, when the Dutch dykes failed and the country flooded. The Dutch learned the hard way how to reclaim land from the sea and how easily a big storm could inundate it. ("Holland" is just a small portion of the Netherlands...in fact, it is in far Southeast corner next to Germany I believe..I know only one tiny part of the Netherlands is hilly, the rest is flat as the American Middle West or parts of Eastern England ( like Cambridgeshire).
