Unfortunately, the Navy Seal rescue attempt ( the second one, by the way) of hostages of Islamic terrorists in Yemen just failed.
Luke Somers, an American photojournalist, and a South African teacher, Pierre Kokie, both died in the rescue effort.
Unlike some countries, the U.S. does not pay ransom and these rescue efforts or diplomatic tries ( not bloody likely with IS or its allies) are the only choices.

Above: Luke Somers in the kind of video we have come to know all too well
Other hostage: Pierre Korkie, who made it to waiting medical facilities on U.S. ship but died there of his injuries.
We are getting used to this kind of story, unfortunately, and one of the root causes is the failure of moderate Muslims, especially in the United States, to oppose fanatics.
Typical of the incredible insensitivity of American Muslims was the attempt to build a huge Mosque in the shadow of Ground Zero of the World Trade Center attack. The rich Muslim sponsor of this folly said he couldn't understand why anyone would oppose it.
Most people don't trust this guy and I don't either.
Anyway, for the NY Times story on the Failed Rescue Effort:
