The fire service in general has been slow to adapt to new work methods, apparatus, and technologies. (Yes, I'm going to say it, "200+ years of Online studenttradition, unhampered by change.") The technology is here today that can allow an individual to obtain the necessary knowledge of firefighting to successfully complete the knowledge-based portion of certification testing. What I did yesterday was a lot like "searching". Searching on or above the fire floor. Crawling on your belly in pitch black ... complete darkness... "Zero Visibility" (another link worth your click). Not knowing what lies ahead, where you're going or what you may encounter along the way. Reaching out trying to find something ... someone but also hoping you wont. What will we find? Life, death or something in between?

PA Fire Company Settles Medicare Medicaid EMS Billing Claim

A Pennsylvania fire company cited by the US Department of Health & Human Services for improper EMS billing of Medicare/Medicaid, has reached a settlement with the US Department of Justice. At the heart of the case is the fact that certain personnel assigned to the EMS units lacked the proper credentials, which when coupled with billing Medicare/Medicaid patients triggered a possible federal False Claims Act violation.
