FDNY EMT Jenelle Rivera was honored by the Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams as Hero of the Month on Nov. 3 for saving the life of a stabbing victim while off duty on Sept. 22.
"We're acknowledging a good deed and the good people who make up Brooklyn," Borough President Adams said.

Hershi Pfeiffer was working in Brooklyn Heights when he was stabbed twice, once in the neck. EMT Rivera, who was doing errands in the neighborhood at the time, saw the crowd and rushed to help the man, providing first aid and controlling the bleeding.

Two others, Marcell Alberti and Dr. Enrico Ascher, MD, also were honored in the ceremony. Mr. Alberti chased down the attacker and held him until police arrived; and Dr. Ascher performed life-saving surgery on the victim.

"I'm grateful to be standing here, and to have been able to help Mr. Pfeiffer in his time of need," EMT Rivera said. "I knew I had to jump in to act and relied on my training."
Mr. Pfeiffer and his family, including his wife and six children, thanked the three heroes.
"We're lucky to be here today and we're proud to stand in your presence," Rabbi Eliezr Foyer, the family's spokesman, said.
