NYC Mental Health - The Training Institute for Mental Health

The Training Institute for Mental Health, 115 West 27th Street, Manhattan

I have done Volunteer work for TIMH for about four years now and never ceased to be amazed at all the new programs, seminars and training sessions they come up.

TIMH offers low cost therapy for students, veterans, LBGT
people, artists, couples, expectant mothers and others
and is a rather unique resource in Manhattan.

Specialties

The Training Institute for Mental Health (TI) provides high-quality, low-fee therapy to New Yorkers. Our therapists are licensed mental health professionals who are enrolled in one of our post-graduate training programs in either psychoanalysis, group therapy, or couples therapy.
TI offers a variety of continuing education workshops to social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, and other professionals.

We accept payment based on a sliding scale that determines a patient's fee by assessing their income and monthly expenses. We also accept Aetna and other health insurance that covers out-of-network mental health benefits.

History

Established in 1960
For more than 50 years, the Training Institute for Mental Health (TI), a nonprofit organization, has provided affordable, high-quality counseling services to people who live, work or go to school in the New York City Metropolitan area.

Highly respected in the field, TI is a member of the Council of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists, the Association of Autonomous Psychoanalytic Institutes, and is chartered by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York.

And here is a link to their website

This is the entrance..just go in and you will see the information board and that TIMH is on the Fourth Floor...

Sarah A. Meehan was a generous benefactor to TIMH...her story is an interesting one--her grandparents were Irish immigrants who actually realized the American Dream as her grandfather made a great deal of money as a stockbroker..

However, her grandmother, after raising all the kids and supposedly now able to live a life of comfort, lapsed into really serious depression which led to her death...

Thus the donation to TIMH, in recognition that we now live in a time when people do not hide away with serious mental problems but go and and seek treatment for them as they should...and in the case of TIMH, for below market rates...

TIMH has a whole range of programs and seminars too for all kinds of people, including couples therapy and working with people from the LGBTV community too...as well as doing outreach with a program that puts mental health counselors in high schools where there are "at risk" students with great potential but difficult home problems etc. who would never get a full range of counseling services otherwise..

Let me list some contact information here--and remind you to check out their website
