Fire Commissioner Discusses FDNY Preparedness in Case of Ebola Patients in NYC
Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro with Chief of EMS
Abdo Nahmod (far right) and Dr. Glenn Asaeda, FDNY Chief Medical
Director of the Office of Medical Affairs (far left).
Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro spoke about the FDNY’s preparedness
should Fire or EMS members encounter an Ebola patient in New York City
on Oct. 6.
If someone calls 911 and describes Ebola symptoms, an algorithm has
been added to 911 asking if the patient has visited West Africa in the
last 21 days.
Information collected will be passed along to all Fire and EMS personnel responding to the call.
He described FDNY members as the “ultimate professionals,” who know
how to handle Ebola patients. And he urged everyone who is sick or needs
medical help to call 911 immediately, “No one should not delay calling
for help, no matter for what they are calling.”
