Business - French businesses ‘hoping for a new Thatcher’

I hope not, Fascism should never be tolerated, in any form. if these people take over France, they will end up like the Brits and the Yanks; peasants with no power. The citizens of France do not want to return to the Petain era, of Vichy France. Holland needs to go in the other direction.

Europe - Russian troops have entered Ukraine, says Kiev

I wonder if the sale of French Mistral class Amphibious Warships to a belligerent Russia, is still considered to be a prudent move by Hollande, after seeing Russian troops annex first the strategically important Crimean peninsular, and now the invasion of Russian troops along a corridor that would secure Russian access to the coastline leading to this prize territory, with its deep sea ports.. ?

Europe - Assad cannot be partner in fight against terrorism, says Hollande

The only way to stop doing stupid stuff with foreign policy is to arm moderate rebels in Syria, to bomb Isis bases in both Syria and Iraq and to finally impose a no-fly zone on the Assad regime. This combination of tactics could allow the Syrian opposition – which has thus far been unable to govern the liberated areas due to Assad’s use of aerial strikes, including barrel bombs, scud missiles, and, on occasion, chemical weapons and poison gas – to move in and work with the local councils to begin returning the basic services to the local communities, bringing a measure of relief to the local civilian population. Imposing a no-fly zone also avoids having to supply advanced weapons to rebels, including TOW missiles and MANPADs, thus minimizing the risk of having them end up in the wrong hands. Still, the opposition will have its work cut out for it in terms of ensuring effective governance of the areas under their control, especially when it comes to reaching agreements between Islamist and secularist currents. But by controlling the flow of humanitarian aid and the funds required for the reconstruction processes, the US, EU and other members of international community could exercise leverage to allow for compromises to be reached. Having said all that, Mr holland, Mr Cameron and Mr Obama should recall that the US, UK and free French happily worked and fought side by side with as notorius a dictator and criminal as Joseph Stalin. I suggest keeping your options open and bear in mind who is the greater threat. Remember in the Mideast the old proverb "the enemy of my enemy is my friend".

Putin is forever emboldened to test the EU and the US, much like a 21st century Hitler. He knows you lack resolve and more importantly have made yourselve political hostages to his gas and oil. If the EU was smart it would look south to perhaps the largest newly discovered reserves..... in offshore ISRAEL. Rush to Tel Aviv to help develop this area. Rush to Tel Aviv to make a deal with Israel for your own sakes. This is perhaps a much more viable solution than waiting for help from Obama, .....poor indecisive, foot dragging Obama. Israel will in turn need and appreciate your help to defend these assets as Russia and Turkey will also eventually look in that direction. In the mean time you are being tested. Enough incessant talk, time for meaningful sector sanctions with emphasis on meaningful and biting.

Europe - Assad cannot be partner in fight against terrorism, says Hollande

A very rash and unwise statement for a President of a great Country with long campaigning history as France to make especially regarding the dangerous and pervasive disease as 'Terrorism' .A Country that right now is helping Africa to try and free itself from the enduring shackles of that disease .A Country that knows very well that in World of 'geo-politics' one can never say "never" and not at some later date be forced to retract ! I do not know but I suspect that the neo-Caliphate poses a greater threat to the survival of France that Dr Assad of Syria could ever do.

Europe - Ukraine rebels admit Russian separatists in their ranks

So Arseniy the Arsonist (the self-appointed prime Minister) says he wants *more* NATO involvement. So he's admitting that NATO is already supplying Kiev with weapons and personnel? If so, then any military moves by Russia, to defend Russian-speakers in Donbass, is justifiable self-defense.

France - New French economy minister takes swipe at 35-hour work week

"The business-friendly minister admitted that his ideas were “difficult to explain and adopt, especially when we are on the Left.” On the Left? A Rothschild banker? Why keep up this facade of being left-wing? Why not just join the UMP? Those of us outside France who looked to a Socialist president to stem or roll back the tide of neo-liberalism which is overwhelming Europe and turning it into a clone of the USA, are bitterly disappointed that no attempt has been made to improve the economy of the EU through socialist policies.Hollande was our last hope.

@Ray Veysey He may not be a socialist, but he is a keynsian, and the tragic part is he's entirely right. How did anyone as dumb as Hollande ever become president? Sarkozy must have been a real piece of work. Montebourg should be president, at least for the economy.

Business - Burger King to buy Canada's Tim Hortons for $11 billion

This "inversion" scam to avoid paying U.S. taxes is going to back fire miserably on BK. A good number of citizens are looking for an excuse to avoid this awful food in the first place so a boycott will probably fall into place pretty easily. I hope Canadians can eat a lot of BK gut bombs or the company will be in trouble early on.
