Fireworks are returning to the Brooklyn Bridge for the 4th of July holiday, but this time, the bang will be bigger.
Macy's last shot a handful of fireworks off the Brooklyn Bridge in 1995. This year there will be “over 5,000 custom-designed effects,” a spokesperson said.
Its been a tough feat to pull off, said Amy Kule, the executive producer of Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks. She said the aim was to not close the bridge for the weeks that we needed to prepare, so we ended building a lot of the elements off-site.”
Her team built platforms to latch on to the bridge in time for the 25-minute firework show.
“It's really going to be a dramatic effect,” Kule said. “There are chasing fireworks, fireworks that burst from the towers and we have a beautiful rainbow cascade effect.”
The firework show hasn’t been set off over the East River in five years.
The Brooklyn Bridge will be closed on July 4.
