This weekend, many Americans are planning getaways around the country—nearly 35 million Americans will be driving more than 50 miles from their home this long weekend, according to Bloomberg News.
But at NASA, the top brains are dreaming of even bigger journeys.
Ellen Stofan is NASA's Chief Scientist. Nowadays, her focus is on figuring out how to get astronauts to Mars—and not just for a quick touchdown, either. Stofan says that despite the challenges, she's optimistic that space travelers can take their first steps on Mars by 2030.
