Nobel Prize-winning author Nadine Gordimer died at the age of 90 in South Africa, her family said Monday. Gordimer won the literature prize in 1991.
In this interview from 2002 — eight years after the end of apartheid — Gordimer told WNYC's Leonard Lopate South Africa's democracy was a work in progress. But seeing black children and white children playing together in the streets gave her hope for the country's future.
