One of the things that has always amused me ( and annoyed me) was the way " finding the value of x" in equations is taught in U.S. schools ( and maybe most schools everywhere).
"X" is always treated like this mysterious planet or the answer to a riddle that just has one meaning..
Whereas in reality, everyone zips past the simple fact that when it comes to the equation
X IS SIMPLY ANY AND ALL VALUES WHICH SATISFY THE EQUATION.
So for one equation we might get the answers +3 and -3 because both will work in the equation.
Let's start teaching children this early...
