A man wearing a clown mask is being hunted by police after knocking on doors and scaring families in Cambridgeshire.
Sgt David Savill has received reports over the past week that the man has been seen in the street in Sawtry and has also had sightings in Cambridge.

He said: “It would appear that a new craze is spreading across social media, this being for people to dress as clowns in an attempt to scare people.”

He added: “At this stage there appears to be nothing sinister in the motives of those taking part, however if they are reading this, I would strongly advise them to stop this activity now. We have received a number of calls from concerned parents and I am aware of disturbing rumours which are currently circulating the schools.”

He said tough action would be taken and officers will be on patrol to reassure residents.
The ‘scary clown’ craze started when student Alex Powell, 22, began appearing in a spooky costume on the streets of Northampton. Copycat clowns have since appeared in towns and cities across the world.
