At least someone has managed to take a beautiful photo or two

Although winter brings treacherous conditions and unimaginably low temperatures, it also brings an element of fantasy. The 2013 to 2014 winter season has been one of the coldest, snowiest winters in recent memory, swathing northeastern cities in temperatures as low as -16 degrees, and breaking records in Philadelphia for the most snowfalls in one season — all four of which were more than six inches high. Even with the discomfort of heavy snow, though, this winter season has retained its inherent magic.

The woman featured above walks along the Reflecting Pool at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC on February 13, 2014. Due to freezing temperatures, the water is iced-over, and proper “reflection” is impossible. Instead, the scene captures a moment of internal reflection.
