Super Bowl 2014: Eli Manning says he gave Peyton tickets, directions for stadium

MOONACHIE — New York
Giants quarterback Eli Manning said this afternoon that in the run-up to
his first Super Bowl appearance in 2008, his brother — the quarterback
for the Indianapolis Colts at the time — was a generous host.
Eli said when he arrived to play at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, his elder sibling, Peyton, offered up his condo, booked dinner reservations and got 30 tickets to the game.
Now the younger brother is returning those favors as Peyton leads the Denver Broncos against the Seattle Seahawks in MetLife Stadium for Super Bowl XLVIII.
Manning, who was hosting a pre-game brunch in Moonachie today, said he got his older brother 35 tickets plus directions.
“He was like, ‘I don’t know how to get anywhere. I don’t know how to get a taxi,’” Eli said of Peyton.
Manning predicted that it would be a close game and though he wouldn’t call the outcome he said he would be rooting for the Broncos.
He gave his brother heartfelt praise for having overcome a neck injury that kept him out for the entire 2011 season and for working hard to make it to the game today.
“I think he’s really enjoying the whole experience,” he said.
When Manning was asked whether there was any competition between the two siblings in terms of the number of Super Bowl rings. Manning said, “Well, last night, Peyton received his fifth MVP award and when people ask me about it, between the two of us, we have five MVP awards.”
Eli has never received the MVP award for the NFL.
Manning continued, “so when we talk about championships I say we have three. I have two and he has one.”
A spokesman for Prime Sport, which sponsored the $535-a-plate gathering at The Graycliff catering hall in conjunction with the two teams, said that 1,200 people attended the event. Judging by the orange jerseys in the crowd, Denver Broncos fans clearly outnumbered Seattle Seahawks fans.
Seahawks fans who stepped outside for a breath of Bronco-free air acknowledged they were outnumbered.
“I expected that the New York area would be rooting for Denver because of the Petyon Manning, Eli Manning connection,” said Richard Olson, a 42-year-old resident of Stanwood, Wash., who was wearing a Seahawks jersey.
Jesse Pettersen, a 28-year-old from Monroe, Wash., had no sympathy for the elder brother or his comeback story.
“It’s one of those sappy fairy tales, old man coming back and everybody loves it,” he said.
