Cibo Matto, the New York band with the
Italian name founded by two Japanese ex-pats, made a lot of people dance
and smile with their albums Viva! La Woman and Stereo*Type A
back in the 1990s. Their songs were usually about food, and they sang
them to a wild blend of catchy tunes, experimentalism, and Hip Hop. Now Yuka C. Honda and Miho Hatori have resumed making music as Cibo Matto, and their first album in 15 years, Hotel Valentine, is their best yet. Honda and Hatori, along with band mates Yuka Araki and Jared Samuel, join David Garland in the WNYC Studio to perform their new songs and tell some of the accompanying ghost stories.
Plus, Garland presents new recordings of previously unknown songs by the enigmatic 1950s songwriter Connie Converse, from the new album Connie's Piano Songs.
