PAX wholesome foods= Midtown

Well, I am still trying to find really healthy food places

This one gets mixed reviews...I was not sure what to make of some of the critical ones..one person bought a cookie they didn't like and that was that

Another got lousy yogurt

Yet others think it is great!

Delicious and fresh! I wish I worked close to this place, I was in the area for a work project. I stopped in for  breakfast, had a bagel with ham, egg, and cheese - it was very good, not greasy at all. Then I came back for lunch and had a tuna sandwich which was also very good. Its a quick stop type of place but they also have seating. The gentlemen working the line were very quick and friendly.

I really had high hopes for this healthy looking cafe. It reminded me of a pret a manger which I had visited in the UK. It was not as good. (Pret a manger are now in the US whoo hoo)

The staff were not welcoming or helpful as it was my husband's and my first time there. The salad was average and the soup actually made me sick,,was greasy and not fresh.  Seating was uncomfortable and obviously made so you won't stay very long. It seems fresh on the surface but when you look a little closer, it's really not. It was also a bit expensive. I'm not saying i wouldn't go back because it seems they did have some quick and easy offerings.  It's just not as good as Pret a Manger.

This is a quick and easy stop for those wanting a cheap breakfast before starting the day. I came here to grab something before embarking on sightseeing with friends on several days. For about $6 you get a hot breakfast -- either a breakfast sandwich or eggs, a meat, toast and potatoes.

It wasn't anything fancy or delicious, but if sufficed and it was fast. This is a chain so you'll find them everywhere. They close pretty early, around 4pm I think so usually after a day out, when I'm on my way back to the hotel, it's already closed.

I've stopped in here several times during my stay at the hotel next door for water, yogurt and fruit.

Just a quick no nonsense stop and everything they have is fresh.

Maybe I have Buffa-low standards, but I thought this was an excellent, healthy alternative to fast food. My Bronx-native friend had never eaten at a Pax and we had no idea it was a chain until checking online after the fact. The food was fresh, tasty, cheap and served by a friendly, efficient staff. The whole location was super clean, well stocked and had a mom'n'pop look to the wares on display, especially the large, delicious-looking desserts.

My friends got a turkey Cuban panini and marinated BBQ beef sandwich that they were both very pleased with. My eggplant panini came with delicious, perfectly textured fresh mozzarella and a tasty marinara for dipping - I was extremely satisfied and couldn't even eat the whole thing (leftovers = good). I also sampled my bf's pecan bar which was otherworldly and definitely beat out the ones Spot sells (which I always thought of as very good, until having this one).

It blew chains like Panera out of the water in taste, portions and value and rivaled the sammies at Spot (I LOVE Spot paninis). The options were plentiful, the prices mostly reasonable (except the $3 cup of pudding!) and the accommodations clean and relaxed. A total win for a random "I have to eat now or I'll die" stop!

This review really is meant to be 3.5 stars, but I'm feeling generous today.

The Pax is right near my job, and I have to admit I have a love/hate relationship with the place.  The store itself is nice.  Medium sized with a pleasant staff, the dining area, salad bar, cashier area and cold drinks area are all kept very clean.  Shelves are restocked constantly and there is a wide variety of goods to be bought from muffins to candy to salads to sandwiches and more.

My favorite thing to get here are their salads.  Their ingredients are always fresh and they stock a good variety of items.  They cube their avocado nicely and they aren't stingly with the amount of items they put into your salad.  They also mix the dressing in well and the service is super fast.

The "hate" part here is that I really love their food, but it's god awful expensive.  I spent about $11 the other day on a salad and that's just way too much for a place where I'm esentially doing "take out".  This limits how often I actually come here, but that's okay.  Sometimes it's nice to have a "sometimes treat" to look forward to!

Located right next to the J-O-B, Pax delivers good food and fast...with just a month in the city they already recognize my face and have my order ready before I even walk up to the counter.

Whether it's a breakfast plate for 5.00 or salad- everything is made to order. Yes, it's slightly overpriced, but it's the hefty price of delicious convenience that brings everyone to this busy storefront ..and they never fail to  leave you satisfied.

    This is a good PAX.

Yeah it's overpriced but all PAXes are. The guys are quick and they've never messed up an order for me yet. They also have a lot of good food options and the cupcakes aren't nearly as bad as you'd think they'd be.

Top notch breakfast sandwiches--although if it's breakfast you want and you have time head over to the Le Pain Quotidien (sp?) on Third. Love those places.

This Pax is right next door to my office building, so it's the most convenient lunch option outside of the buidling's own cafeteria. It's a little pricier than some of the similar offerings nearby, but the made-to-order salad bar is fresh and full of choices, and the soups are generally good (go for a small; it's almost the same size as a large and costs less).

When I'm too tired to walk more than 50 feet, Pax is a totally doable lunch destination.

I like it much better than Le Pain next door.  Its cheaper with much better options for breakfast.  They could give you more for the price.  Tasted good though.  I wish they have an easier menu to follow for breakfast.  Lots of fun options for lunch.

    Decent coffee

I really wish there was a Pax in Dallas Texas...

My boyfriend and I came to visit my friend in New York, and after doing all the touristy things, we stopped by here to pick up some food. My friend lives down the street from Pax and he says he eats the pasta and the salad bar all the time. We all made our own pasta, and it's rare to find a place like this that makes the pasta in front of you with a selection of vegetables and pasta sauces to choose from. Although I could easily make these pastas in my own kitchen, it made me really happy to see New York has something like this to offer. I was so happy that we came to Pax during our visit! After our trip was over, I was on the plane ride back home and I realized I left behind my leftovers in my friend's fridge....I was very sad...

"I left my tasty pasta in New York City..."

I order from Pax at least once a week.

    +The salads are very fresh
    +Create your own salad
    +VERY fast delivery
+Turkey and Brie/Ham and gouda sandwiches
    +Combos for soup and sandwiches
    +Easy online ordering

    -Skip the quiche

Pax is always a solid choice for a salad. Its a very generous size and I never have to wait more than 10 minutes for delivery. Usually disappointed when I try other places in the area. Trust me once you start ordering from them the whole office gets hooked.

Pax is one of the places I go to for lunch from my office on 3rd between 40th and 41st.

The service is friendly, but scattered. There doesn't seem to be much communication between the cashier and the others behind the counter. They tend to do that thing where they're helping the person in front of you and then start ringing you up before they've finished, which sends people like me into panic mode.

As far as the food, my co-worker raves constantly about their cupcakes. I've had a quiche which i loved and was a great break from wraps & paninis and I had the pastrami zesto, which was a little too heavy on the mustard, but nice and warm and flavorful nonetheless.

Price is typical for the area- just under $10 for a sandwich and a bag of chips... but not everyone needs to get both, I'm just a little piggy.

The biggest issue I have is that they close at 4pm, which isn't a huge deal, but it limits my late-lunch/after-work options.

Overall, I'd rather go to Pret, but Pax is definitely a top choice as well.

Great take out option, staying at the Grand Hyatt this was not far and they have just about anything for those looking for a filling, not too greasy, food option. Grilled panini's very good. Parfeits weren't great but 4 stars for the sandwiches and soup

Pax: wholesome food that is bland and soggy.  Yogurt parfait?  Soggy granola.  Grab a sandwich at 7pm?  Get the one that's been sitting there for Zod knows how long.  Bleah.

Perhaps if I lived in NY I'd review this a bit lower, but I LOVE the idea of fast, mostly fresh food. Went there for Breakfast and it was decent (the hubby LOVED the potatoes).

Also grabbed a sandwich before I got on the plane, it was yummy.

Treats are ok, don't get the pistachio cupcake, it's disgusting and tastes nothing like pistachio.

OK, I have a thing for these little walk-in delis but I love Pax!  The service was quick and efficient.  I got a self-made salad and it was delish!  Great for a quick in-and-out lunch :)

With locations all over the city, Pax is a great spot for lunch with their many healthy and fresh options - all sorts of soups, salads, sandwiches. I feel like this place is the oft-ignored step child with lunch heavyweights Pret and Aroma nearby so there is almost always room to sit down during lunch time. The staff is friendly and efficient (especially the men in the sandwich area who always yell at me for not dining in). Pax also has a solid baked goods section too but I try to steer clear of this area.

I rarely buy lunch, but was in a rush last Thursday so stopped into this PAX location.  I picked out my sandwich and went to pay for it.  The cashiers felt that it was more important to chat to one another rather than ring up my sandwich. Finally, one of them grabbed my sandwich (while continuing to talk to the other cashier) and rang it up.  While I sat at the filthy table I watched the salad bar guys make salads for customers.  When there were no customers around the two salad guys played with the salad makings and snacked on the vegetables that were in the bins.  It was disguting.  I will NEVER go back to this location or any other PAX for that matter.

I ordered a Rasberry linzer tart cookie from PAX on East 42nd street and it was so horrible. The cookie was stale and tasted like it has been on display for days. The Rasberry filling had no taste at all and was like goo. It is pretty hard to mess up a linzer tart cookie. I contacted PAX to let them know, giving them the receipt number and the date and time I went in and did not receive a satisfactory reply. I will never order anything from PAX again. If you would like to eat food that should be thrown out go to Pax, Not only that, they will charge you more than most places.
