Hampton Inn- Madison Square Garden (?)

This is exasperating because I do not think this is one of the Hampton Inns yelp lists...(there are several)..

You always want to get the right one..

This seems close..not a luxury hotel but clean and comfortable and people compliment the staff a lot...small rooms...one person found a water bug in their bath tub ( welcome to NY!)

We stayed here during a busy Memorial Day weekend. While the room was tiny, it was clean and secure. Parking overnight at nearby parking decks will run you $35-$40/night, but you should ditch the car if you can find another way into the city.  The subway station is convenient and there are all kinds of food choices in easy walking distance.

The breakfast area was very spacious and always seemed to have at least one open table during the busiest period. Several staff members were refilling different items continuously.

Slow elevators and an overcrowded (small) lobby are the only things keeping this hotel from five stars.

    AMAZING staff! :)
which is hard to find in a decent hotel in Manhattan
Thank you Hampton for an excellent team!

They were even helpful late at night! Give great directions and awesome advice!

The breakfast set up was cute and cozy... the food (although i only really went for the fruit and pastry) was pretty good... I seen people making waffles and eggs... looked yummy!

I love the look of the room and how clean it was... comfortable bed and soft pillows! The decor was also creative!

    Comfy hotel!! Will come back!

Woke up and found the largest cockroach/water bug I've ever seen in my life running around in my sink. Almost puked. This is what you get for $300 a night or 60,000 Hilton Honors points.

    It's definitely a 3 star place...

Location is great!  Close to business, shopping, and public transportation.

Rooms are super clean and I'd rate them medium sized by NYC standards.

Gym is an absolute joke!  1 Treadmill, 1 recumbant bike, and 1 eliptical.  All stuffed in a small, smelly room, located in the basement.  Depending on your timing you will have to navigate all of the maid carts to actually get in.

Only 2 SLOW elevators as well.  If you happen to be on a low floor and opt for the stairs, you will find yourself outside... and down is the only option.  I couldn't locate the steps up!

    This Hampton was pretty upbeat!!

It was very close to Madison Square Garden.  The room was very small, but the bed was luxurious and the decor was nice and fun.  The staff was great and it was easy to catch a cab from the front door.  The view was not great, but not bad either.  I definitely recommend it.

This was my first trip to NYC so I don't have anything to compare to my stay at the Hampton Inn, but I must say that my stay there is among the top of any stays I've had in any hotel. Yes the room was a bit small, I was forewarned by other reviews of the hotel, but it's NYC! The bed is comfortable, not great - but comfortable enough. I loved the pillows but my husband did not - he doesn't like soft pillows like me. The breakfast is also the best I've had at any other hotel. It included eggs, ham, French toast, waffles, cereals, and pastries. If you don't have time to sit down and eat they have some grab bags of food to go! The location of the hotel is also a plus. Short walking distance to empire state building, broadway, times square, Rockefeller center, and Penn station. The only negative comment i can say about this place is that the tv freezes. No, we didn't come to NYC to watch tv, but at night before going to bed my husband and I like to watch tv. And it's the worst when you're watching something and it freezes and in a few seconds starts up again and you don't know what happened. All in all, the next time I come to NYC, I would definitely stay there again!

I was able to get a room here the night Hurricane Sandy hit.

Small, clean and comfortable. No complaints.

I just spent three nights here and really enjoyed the stay.. This is a small hotel--19 floors, eight rooms per floor. I had a king-bedded room. The only things I wish we're different we're the size and orientation of the closet, how close the desk was to the bed (easy to hurt yourself on the edge of it if you're not careful getting out of bed), and that my TV would turn itself on occasionally with no help from me (which was truly more amusing than annoying).

I did see a room with two beds, and admit I'd have been unhappy in it; it really was too small to accommodate them.

The staff is stellar...from the housekeepers to the friendly houseman, to the front desk staff--it really doesn't get better.

Unlike other Hampton Inns I've stayed in where the breakfast area is really part of the lobby, at this hotel it's at the back of the property...and feels more like a cafe. I loved the decor, and appreciated the flickering frameless candles; if you'd asked me before this trip if I thought something like that would have been appropriate or appreciated in a space like that, I'd have said no--and I would have been dead wrong.

Good breakfast, good coffee, great freshly baked cookies every evening, comfy beds, clean rooms...and then there's the very nice location.  A block to Penn Station/Madison Square Gardens, with a Starbucks on the corner, an international food court directly across the street that delivers 24 hours/day, and all of the city easily at your feet.

Although this has nothing to do with the hotel, one thing to note...in case this would bother you. Across the street, about 10 homes less people camp out every night. There's nothing about them that felt scary to me, but it hurt my heart.

    Go... :)

This is a sufficient, clean hotel. It's nothing special, but the rates are good, the breakfast was waaaay better than I expected, the staff was friendly, free wifi and they have a couple of computers in the lobby to use for free as well.

I guess the rooms vary in size. I visit NYC frequently and actually thought our room was quite spacious for a queen room. The bathroom was also roomy (but no tub and only a little soap ledge in the shower which wasn't so great) and the toiletries were convenient.

And if you're spending most of your time midtown, you can't beat the location. It's a $5 cab ride from Grand Central or a 9-block walk and Madison Square Garden is a block away.

Staff was very nice. Breakfast was surprisingly excellent. Tremendous variety and good coffee. Would definitely stay here again if we're just looking for an easy hotel and nothing special. Paid about $179 on http://hotels.com for the 4th of July.

    Pro,
    1. Clean room
    2. Free Breakfast
    3. Free Wifi
    4. Staff is somewhat friendly

    Con,
1, Tiny room - there is no space for you to put the luggage, and the closet is very very small.
    2. Small "shower" room- there is no counter space, they have a very small ledge above the toilet for you to put your toiletry. I am worried about knocking stuff in the toilet every time I place and remove stuff from the ledge.
    3. No safe of any sort - The staff is not willing to take the items that you are worried that my get stolen if you left it in the room. and their definition of the front desk safe is the drawer at the front desk.

    Advise
    1. Ask for the "TOP" floor instead of "higher" floor,  I ask for the "higher floor and they put me on 7th floor.
    2. Don't take the room right next to the ice machine, the machine suppose to be off at 9 PM.  The staff never turned it off.

I give this Hampton Inn five stars for their service that goes above and beyond what you would expect!

Each time we visit this hotel, we leave happy! The staff is all very welcoming and attentive, and always accommodates requests with a smile.

Special notice goes to Matthew and Darrell who went above and beyond for our group. Darrell even went so far as to bring me chicken noodle soup from a neighboring restaurant when I was not feeling well. As hospitality professionals, we were extremely impressed and grateful for his generosity and excellence.

Pros: Clean room, great location, good price

Cons: Showers/bath are a bit worn down, only two elevators servicing 19 floors, fitness center is a joke (1 treadmill, 1 bike, 1 elliptical that all seem like they were the first fitness machines ever invented)

Overall: Rooms are decently sized, but no dresser and the closet is a bit small so i kept my clothes in my suitcase. There is free breakfast, but don't expect much as it is not very impressive (even tried it twice). There are tons of great breakfast places nearby so there isn't much of a reason to eat it unless you're in a hurry.

For the price and location, this hotel makes for a good place to stay a few nights in a fun area of the city, but will likely not stay here again.

I stayed at this Hampton Inn on a recent business trip to New York.  It was clean, friendly, and efficient, and free of bedbugs.  Rooms were small and not very soundproof, but my neighbors were quiet so it wasn't a problem.

It's in a good location for tourists because it's near Madison Square Garden and the Empire State Building.  I was attending a trade show at the nearby Hotel Pennsylvania and I had dinner in Koreatown with a colleague so it was good for me too.  Normally I'd rather stay in Gramercy or on the Upper East Side but really, the subway and a million taxis are right outside so it doesn't really matter.

And I have to agree that the elevators are slow, but you'll get where you're going.  The price is reasonable for the location, so I didn't mind the elevators.

Be prepared to stay in the SMALLEST hotel room of your life. I guess you can't really expect anything more from a hotel in NYC. We stayed in a 2 queen bed room. There was barely enough room to walk around. The only counter space was a small desk. The closet had just enough room for a couple things, but there was no place to put a suitcase except for on the floor to even further restrict your walking space. Pack light!

The hotel itself is clean and conveniently located near Madison Square Garden/Penn Station. The staff is friendly and attentive to your needs, there's always on someone on staff.

The upside of this hotel, the breakfast. There's a decent selection of food and coffee is available throughout the entire day.

Even though I didn't enjoy my time in this hotel too much, I want to give them the benefit of the doubt. It is NYC, and everything is small. Though the room was miniature, the service wasn't lacking. If you're looking for more space in the city, expect to pay for it.

Cheap and convenient! It's location is perfect! Our room was really nice for what we paid and the staff treated us very nicely. Grant it, we only stayed one night and hardly spent any time in the room (which is the way it should be when you visit NYC).

    Totally would return :)

This place has FREE continental breakfast - muffins, biscuit, egg, sausage, sometimes bagels, fruit, yogurt, juices, toast, etc. - which was a big plus.  But you have to wake up damn early for it - it ends at 9a on the weekdays and 10a on the weekends.

It's centrally located between Madison Square Garden and Koreatown and a short walk from the shopping area on 34th.  It's a short walk from Penn Station, which was super convenient since we took the NJ Transit in.  They are friendly and they watch your bags if you check out early but still want to roam.

Also, big plus was toothpaste, razor, shave cream and other things.  The shave cream gave my brother a BIG zit under his nostril before his med school interview, so I recommend going to Duane Reade for shaving cream.

Very clean, small, comfy, small flat-screen TV, maids were kind of noisy vacuuming and a little grouchy, free tea and coffee all day in the lobby, free USA Today everyday (can you tell I'm all about the free stuff)~ would recommend to any traveler who likes to wake up early.  Good value - I paid about $950 for 6 nights (I think~)

Per previous yelp reviews:  yes the elevators here pretty much have a mind of their own.  They are very slow, and sometimes they go in the opposite of the desired direction (even with the correct up/down/floor buttons pushed).  It can be borderline scary if riding in elevators freaks you out.

That was really the only negative.  As far as Hampton Inn's goes this place is really nice.  It's a step up from your mainline Hampton Inn.

    Positives:

-There are NO BED BUGS HERE!!! :)  I checked immediately when I walked in, placing my bags on the bathroom floor, then doing a thorough check.  None!  (there are other reviews on trip advisor that support this statement as well...)

-Very friendly staff, they offered good advice/directions etc., lent our room some scissors...
-24 hour tea and coffee available - the tea late night actually comes in handy
-Awesome location - 3 minute walk to Penn Station and MSG
-the rooms were clean, bathrooms clean
    -flatscreen TV, wireless internet (free)

    We enjoyed our stay here.

Yes, I would stay here again.
