Dewey's Flatiron

Sports bar kind of place, which appeals to some people much more than others

Mixed reviews but again you have to read them for yourself and figure out how they strike you--for every person who loves this place, there is someone who is underwhelmed (again)

You may already know if you even want to try this place or not

Stopped in here after the Village Halloween parade and it wasn't too crowded, which was nice. Everyone who works here is really chill, and the drinks were cheap (ladies night, thursday!)
Food was typical bar food and took a while to come out, but no complaints.
It's a  good laid back place to grab a drink and actaully have room to sit & hangout a while.

Wowza.. honestly, I just really like their fried mac and cheese and nachos. They are BOMB.

Besides that, I really have nothing bad to say yet nothing great either. Cool spot, great for happy hour, not full of assholes. Of course there's the occasional too-drunk-too-early guy, but hey, we've all been there. The bartender is very attentive and there's good drink deals.

I'd come back. But if their kitchen had a flood or electrical fire, then I wouldn't. Ya know

This is my team's new local spot.  It is a dive and that is why it is so perfect.  They have no AC. It is so hot and humid, you can't help but drink.... A LOT.  Stand by the fan to cool off for like half a second.

Love there appetizer sampler. It feeds an army.  Mozzarella sticks and wings are the bomb.  I know because I have fed my team, which is like an army.  And they left nothing on the table.

Drinks: Get some picklebacks, soco lime, or jamieson shots.  That is all you need for a great time.  You may not remember anything you did that night but you'll be thanking me in the morning.

Drinks are well priced. Usually not too packed. Pretty solid happy hour specials. Plenty of TVs. Food is pretty bad, don't come from the food -- especially avoid the nachos.

It's all around a pretty standard sports bar, probably wouldn't go out of my way to visit.

If you ask for Jameson, you'll get some imposter plastic bottle whiskey disguised in a Jameson bottle.  Never again.

This place is the regular jaunt of my office for happy hour, especially as it is a block away. Dewey's has a decent happy hour special ($5 well drinks and wine, and $4 select beers). There are 2 levels; the upstairs has couches, so that's where we usually head towards. Unfortunately, only you can only get a wider selection of beer from downstairs, or if you do waitress service.

I haven't tried their food, so I can't attest to that. There are a lot of TVs, so you can come here to get your sports game fix on.

Going to keep this simple. I have been here on more than one occasion due to convenience. This bar is situated by my office and is usually on the way to or from where we are usually headed. I have always headed here with a group of at least 5 people.

No frills kind of place. Average selection of beers with full bar. Poor circulation of air, so the upstairs gets really hot. If you don't mind poor to mediocre service, then by all means - check it out.

    Server: Liza

The crime: $4.00 sodas, no refills.
Potato salad was gag worthy. These are frozen potatoes, not fresh. Who makes potato salad with frozen potatoes??

    Guacamole was lifeless and bland.

Did I mention the FOUR DOLLAR sodas?? With NO refills? In 8oz glasses?!

Pros: burger and fries were good

    Service was "eh".

I always have a really good time when I come here. The bar can get a bit congested as the layout is somewhat narrow. There are a decent amount of roomy booths at the back of the bar which feature very attentive service if you want to get away from the crowds up front.

The bartenders are all very friendly, and earn high marks...and tips...in my book. Beer selection is decent, but pricey. The other night I ordered 3 drafts: Yuengling, Dogfish 90min. IPA, & Sam Adams. $24. Call me old fashioned, or just old, but I think even by today's standards that is expensive for a bar of this kind.

There are ample flat screens showing numerous sporting events, and the music is usually pretty good. Healthy mix of genres. There is an upstairs area that I think is mostly reserved for private parties. I would say the food is typical pub fare, and I have mostly sampled chicken fingers, wings, onion rings, etc. Average dish runs around $10-13.

I will continue to come here as the location is convenient for the group of us that normally meet here for drinks. I will also reserve the right to continue complaining that there beer prices are too high.

Oh, forgot one key ingredient to this bar....PBR Tall Boys. For $10 you can get one and a shot of Jameson.

Go here for the drinks and happy hours... don't go here for the overpriced food.

Dewey's is a great spot for a drink with friends and that's it. The food is overpriced for what you get and not well prepared. $13 for the smallest chicken wrap with no sauce and super dry chicken and a tiny serving of coleslaw? I was better off grabbing some street meat from outside.

However, they have great happy hours!

This was not a bad find after a night of chaos.  So seven us headed here and ordered drinks.  The service was relatively fast, and then got slower.  We had decent pickle backs, drinks, and beers.  The waitress never said it was a 20% gratuity for groups over 5 so there was that.  Otherwise though, I'd come back.

Large booths, plenty of seating on a Thursday night.  Not very good A/C, but you can park yourself by one of the fans posted around the room.  Average food, but lots of it considering the price.  (But maybe I've just gotten used to expensive restaurants??)  It's pretty noisy, but dies down after 9 PM.  Plays pop and hip-hop music in the background.  No frozen margaritas.  $15 minimum to pay with a credit card.

    Chargers bar in San Diego!

Chargers themed food!  Chargers drink specials!  Friendly staff.  Good people.

Hello, Dewey's!  Thank you for being a home away from home!
  • 7/13/2013
Cool bartenders who play a good variety of music and make good long island iced teas and patron margaritas. Several TVs, good place to catch any big game.
The wings are great, I like them plain with hot sauce on the side so the skin is nice and crispy. The pizza was alright.. heard the burgers are great though. Also, I have to thank the bartenders for introducing me to pickle back shots!

This place was ok, we only went because it was close. Not sure if it is supposed to be an Irish bar or something else. There was no real identity to the place. Good beer selection but the prices were high. The joint has on overall funk to, which may be from the kitchen.

The food was ok, but overpriced. I am originally from Upstate and know great wings. These wings were ok but $11 really? Pizza was good but again, not worth the money.

Used to live in the neighborhood and Dewey's is a good old reliable spot for happy hour or if you need a drink without a cover, line, or pretentious crowd on a weekend night.  The food is your typical bar food, nothing special and surprisingly a little overpriced for burgers considering shake shack is just across the street!

Bottom line, good place if you are in a pinch or in the neighborhood, but nothing to go out of your way to check out.
  • 7/13/2012
Dewey's was an old hangout from 10 years back and it's vibe hasn't changed.  Still good crowd, still great selection of beers and still LOUD!!!

Can't go wrong with Thursday's Ladies night and $5 Beers and their Goat Cheese pizza!!

I haven't written a review in quite sometime, but after seeing the owner, ED DOBRES, response to Mordicai C's fair review, it spurred me. First off, the owner who clearly has some self-confidence issues he needs to work on, would recognize that not everyone is going to enjoy your establishment. It's an Irish pub, not exactly the most original concept as there are many in the city. In fact dare I say to Ed Dobres, there are MANY BETTER Irish pubs in NYC. I know that may shock you. Your Happy Hour is indeed a joke. Your food is atrocious and overpriced, and yes, believe it or not, your restaurant could possibly use a "Restaurant: Impossible" makeover. Also considering Dewey's has an average of 3 stars after 57 reviews, clearly not everyone loves your food and atmosphere. The food can be made better, but clearly with an owner like Ed Dobres, the atmosphere will always be bad.

And Mordicai C is the one that needs to get a life? How about the crazy, self-obsessed owner who scours Yelp looking to degrade people who dare give his restaurant less than stellar reviews. Awful place. Awful owner.

    Cool dive in Flatiron.

Drinks are in big glasses and the bartenders hook them bad boys up. It's really loud but like I said, it's a dive.

It's a cool spot to hit up before or after your night.

You know that guy in your office who's kind of a creep? The guy who sits in the corner, has no friends, and is always trying to hang out? The guy who keeps the rest of you from talking about your plans to go out after work for fear that he'll catch wind of them, so you all secretly e-mail each other instead?

    Turns out I'm that guy.

I recently discovered that all my co-workers go out drinking together ALL THE TIME. They have been hiding at Dewey's because it's the closest bar to our office, and I'd never think to look there. Here I've been staking out all the bars near their apartments, and they've been right under my nose the whole time.

Anyway, I can see why they go to Dewey's: it's a solid bar. They have a decent happy hour with an out-sized happy hour crowd (lots of offices in the area), but there are plenty of booths, each with their own flatscreen. The drinks are strong enough, and the beer selection is decent as well. The menu seems like the standard fried bar food staples (mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers, etc.), and while I haven't yet had the pleasure, I bet they taste like the standard fried bar food staples.

An average after-work spot, perfect for downing a few drinks (hopefully on the expense account) and complaining about your company/boss/salary/life.

Whether you're drowning your sorrows after of a tough day at the office or out celebrating with those same coworkers, Dewey's Flatiron makes happy hour easy. Sure, it fits into the Irish Sports bar genre without much flavor or individuality but you won't find much better in the area surrounding Madison Square Park.

Things to expect before you go:
    1. You'll be carded at the door. I've seen them card a grandma with a walker here.
    2. Sports will be on TV. Not your team? Then just take a gander at one of the other 5 flat screens.
    3. The place is filled with yuppies, media types, bridge and tunnel, tourists and the occasional posse of frat boys doing jägerbombs. And then you, of course.
    4. The food will smell better than it tastes. It's not bad at all, it's just typical bar food: wings, waffle fries, pizza, nachos. These are also the perfect way to bring that intern who starts slurring her words back from a black out.

There's also an upstairs area available for private rental, just in case your group is too large to squeeze. Now get back to work, you still have a few hours till Happy Hour.

I've been to Dewey's mostly after 9pm on Wednesday's, so that's what this review pertains to.

When I go, it's usually with a group of people 10-15 and we always feel like we own the place. We sit in the back booth area where there are a few flat screen TVs.

We order beers (there's a nice selection; not cheap, but not pricey either) and average bar fare (nachos, wings, mozz sticks), averaging $10-$12 per dish.

Overall, it's a fine bar. Centrally located across the street from Madison Square Park, decent service and over 2 dozen beers on tap.

Just grabbed a few beers with a friend on a Tues eve.  Dewey's made perfect sense since she lives in West Union Square and I live in Gramercy.  It wasn't too crowded so we grabbed some seats at the bar.  I learned there was a "Ladies Night Special" ($5 domestic + well) weeknights 7PM till close and was impressed.  But soon enough I learned exactly why.

There was a group of extremely drunk men (it was around 7:30 at this point) who were so loud I could barely hear my friend talk at certain points.  Eventually they started the horseplay - one guy doing cartwheels and two others wrestling.  When they left around 9pm I was so relieved.

Besides that, it seemed like a good spot to grab some drinks, watch some games and relax after work.

I'm not going to rip Dewey's a new one. It's not really that bad. But I don't think there was enough here besides one blonde's cleavage to warrant any more than two stars. The highlight of the night was this girl who was INSANELY drunk just slouching around on the bar as her friends watched in horror. And she STAYED. for another HOUR. and someone gave her a glass of WINE. and the bartender rightly TOOK IT AWAY. It was just dumb, because she was going up to dudes that she didn't even know and they were being really sleazy.

The bartenders were no-fuss kind of people, good bartenders who pour really stiff drinks, tall pint glass mixed drinks. Unfortunately, I think when I told one bartender I was closing my tab, I think she heard it as "one more round and then close the tab" because when I got my bill it was as if we were charged for 6 drinks and not four. Oh well. I got sufficiently hammered on two double jack and diet's and with all the beer before that at other bars.
Plenty of TVs, but the one high def one is by the front of the bar toward the entrance, if you're facing the bar it's the most right. The projection screen above the entrance is shitty, the quality is horrible. Simply laid out, with an upstairs to boot, it's spacious though, I wouldn't mind going back on a non-game night to see the vibe.

Love this place! Great food, drinks and atmosphere. The staff is really friendly and helpful. Plus, being a Charger fan, finding a "Charger Bar" is tough to do in NYC.
