Looked awfully big to me but I am not sure what is going on here
Time to look to Yelp--Ha ha, real mixed reviews again, but with the lovers really outnumbering the haters ( I feel sorry for the guy(or gal--can't tell) with the "incredibly botched carpet installaion" though).
Especially considering how expensive people say this place is.
Others seem bedazzled by all the choices they can find here--"inspired" as one puts it, others use the idea of "having died and gone to heaven"
But one person says these people are all lazy and paying prices for coffee tables that are priced " as if the wood had come from Noah's Ark"

New York, NYI have loved ABC Carpet and Home since the first time I walked in to the store about seven years ago. You can find almost any type of furniture and/or accessory that you may be looking for. More recently I have been quite obsessed with the jewelry selection, and the amazing candles that ABC stocks.
Last year - I bought these one-of-a-kind stools made from reclaimed wood and steel. We love them. They sit in our kitchen at our island. I am pretty sure that they are still sold, and in a couple different styles.
Quite sure that some of you may experience sticker shock, but if you are looking for well made furniture - there isn't much you can do about it. Good stuff costs money.
There is always helpful staff nearby, and they are very informational. I have bought all sorts of things from ABC, and I have never had a problem with anyone there.
ABC has quite the variety, so go and check them out! I am sure they will appreciate you coming in. -

New York, NYHorrible. I purchased stools from ABC Carpet & Home in May for October delivery. The DAY before my delivery they called me to let me know that my stool order was lost, and they weren't going to be bringing in any more stools until 2014, so there was nothing they could do.
I also purchased 8 dining room chairs on the same order, and they arrived in 2 different die lots. Now I am fighting with them to get them to refund me for my stools.
Never again. -

Elmhurst, ILIs this store way expensive? Hell yes! Does that make you not want to buy everything here? Hell NO! After walking through the doors I didn't even know where to begin its so completely visually spectacular. Not only is it a visual feast but there are products that you'll find you just have to have, such as a small batch of olive oil. There are 6 floors devoted to home, design, clothing, apothecary, ethnic, jewelry, children. It's just gorgeously curated.
I found the service to be perfectly fine. I don't particularly want someone following my every move but then I don't want to hear an echo when I need assistance. All went down normally here.
Yes their specially culled items are pricey, but if you are a DIYer then you should definitely come here and get inspiration.... $500 vintage peasant blouse out of your price range? Look for it on Ebay or Etsy...they're $100 there but your regular shopper here doesn't care- they've most likely money to burn and no time to dig.
This will be a regular stop on my visits to NYC...next time lunch at ABC Kitchen! -

Manhattan, NYI am an artist of many crafts and I love walking the floors of ABC home for inspiration. You can find some really great textures, patterns, and ideas for new techniques across many subjects. But the idea of buying something here is laughable when anyone with a good eye, hand, and materials can make almost anything here themselves! That being said, this is a fantastic gallery but not a great store. -

Nine years ago I bought a couple of rugs here and now while decorating my new apartment, my designer and I stopped in here and Paul helped us find the perfect rug for my bedroom and another one for the entry hall.
Great selection, great service....shopping is one of my least favorite things to do but coming here was a pleasure. Found what I wanted in less than 30 minutes. With my designer's discount, I felt the prices were great.
Sure, you can easily drop over five grand here in a few minutes, but when they make it that painless, who can complain. -

Pasadena, CAAMAZE-BALLS! I really thought I died and went to heaven. As soon as I stepped into this store I was immediately overwhelmed with all the beautiful jewelry, fine decode, handmade treasures and unique natural objects. You need a few hours to look at and appreciate everything, especially if you're a hardcore shopper.
It is pricey but that's what you pay for upscale, handmade items. Anyone complaining otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about. Every object is beautiful and unique. -

Ann Arbor, MII walked into this store and thought that I had been hit by a cab, died, and gone to heaven.
Store is beautiful. It's very well-decorated and is organized well. I bought several items here, including a necklace, a few bracelets, kitchen gadgets, a phone cover, jewelry box, etc etc. It is a bit over-priced, but it's what you would expect at any other prime real-estate that is well-decorated and is pleasing to the eye. -

Hello?? Is there anybody out there....who has actually made a purchase at ABC Carpet & Home? I want to know. Seriously, raise your hand if you have.
For some reason, seeing all of these crazy expensive, oddly mish-mashed items in one place gets me inspired. I've never bought anything but I'm always sure to stop in when I'm in the city. I treat it more like a really well curated museum or art gallery instead of an actual retail store.
They've got 1000 year old Asian relics, super modernist ceramic pieces, high design textiles, health and beauty items, and everything in between. Again, ABC is great for a little design inspiration boost but I'd hunt down similar objects at the much more affordable Pier 1 Imports or Restoration Hardware. -

Manhattan, NYThis is a review of their DISCOUNT BASEMENT for RUGS.
I bought a flat weave kilim rug for our living room here. The rugs in the basement are highly discounted from their original prices. The original prices being really high, this doesn't make them cheap, but it's a great place if you are looking for a high quality rug at more affordable prices.
The sales people were extremely helpful and nice. They packaged the rug, so I could take it home on my bike.
I came back to get a rug pad and they not only gave me a big discount, but also loaded everything into a taxi (they waited on the street with me until I'd gotten one). -

Manhattan, NYThis place is way overpriced. I liked how large this place was and items and furniture were well spaced apart showcasing different ideas and styles.
Several floors for various show pieces and also ranging from furniture to bedding and fabrics.
I found a pillow priced for $475 and what looked like a chandelier made out of recycled bottles at $900. Both of which I could do myself. Also a kick-butt light for $2000. If I looked up how to weld on youtube and had the tools to cut into metal I would be able to make that too.
But I can't do any of that right now.
I will say though the way the pieces were made looked very durable. Everything was beautiful. And to be honest I would even buy a few of the nonsense items. The cheapest thing I saw was a doll made out of beads for $35. I'd also come back to buy one of the beds there. I'm an adult now and I've been dreaming of a headboard for my bed for a long time now. I figured why not just a complete bed. Soon, very soon.
The staff is present, but not invasive. In fact nobody bothered us except one time just to say hello and ask how our day was. Simple and short. I like having my shopping experience like that sometimes. Especially in a home decor store.
Four stars only because things are slightly overpriced. -

New York, NYABC is huge! they also house the amazing Jean George's ABC Kitchen Restaurant which I have been dying to try. My boyfriend came here two weeks ago to try to find new things for our home. Almost everything was 60% but still very expensive after the sale price. There is so much stuff to choose from. I really love the apothecary. So many incredible scents! I really hope to line our whole apartment with fresh scents and huge crystal rocks and Himalayan sea salt rocks. I'm sure he would kill me. lol
There were also massive rugs. I wish we owned a huge loft to put all this stuff, its kind of pointless in an apartment space. :) -

Brooklyn, NYBuyer Beware: The carpet sales people are thieves. Get everything in writing. I have been quoted prices, only to be told --Oh, that's not the price. A salesperson called me on the phone while I was deliberating and said, "we are having a sale, so if you decide now I can give you a 25% discount." Oh guess what? That never materialized. I have made arrangements over the phone and they didn't send me the service contract and when the technicians showed up-- guess what? Under carpet is not included in the price even though the salesman explicitly said it was.
I overpaid for some shitty grass rugs. This store is a rip off. -

Manhattan, NYA place for the lazy who don't know how to shop. If you can't find your own secret places to acquire that mesmerizing knick-knack or marvelous bibelots then come here. For at 90% mark-up you too can have the mass produced piece of kitsch that every other unoriginal person has.

I had never been to this renowned establishment on previous trips to the Big Apple so my friend Barb suggested it this time. As we approached the store, we noticed a rather long line of people anxious for the store to open ... parents and toddlers waiting to see Santa Claus.
While I would never buy anything at this overpriced store, I marveled at the inventive displays and use of color utilized in creative merchandising. The jewelry was delicate for the most part - that look seems to be trending in NYC at the moment, rather than big and clunky.
My favorite pieces overall were the antique tennis rackets displayed in a huge circle, boxing memorabilia, medicine balls, the realistic stuffed animal raccoon in the front window, and a cool lamp made out of pearlized mussel shells. Barb and I were trying to figure out how we could make this piece since we are both artists.
I made the mistake of spraying some Jasmine cologne on myself and Barb asked at one point what the wretched smell was wafting through the air. I couldn't wait to wash it off, but alas, the ladies room had no soap. On the way out, a peek at the Santa revealed an authentic looking dude donning a plum-colored, old-fashioned, antique costume rather than the usual bright red garb. Very nice touch.-

Essentially a bazaar, ABC is floors full of various mini shops within the big building. A bazaar of the bizarre in many cases. The prices are insane, for the most part. Though, presumably, each little shop sets their own prices, the overall vibe is stupidly costly.
3 stars because it's beautiful to look at and the people watching was great. Otherwise, 2 stars. The markup is just baffling. -

Ok, it's cool. It has six floors of crazy home stuff, and everything is unique, and the atmosphere is nice. But seriously? One trip is enough. I don't need to feel any more poor than I already do after seeing $50 espresso cups and $30,000 couches. -

Brooklyn, NYI've been to ABC twice to shop for cosmetics I'm not allergic to. Maybe it's just the Sunday crew, but the employees seriously seemed like they had the life sucked out of them. I experienced better service at TJ Maxx. Someone started rearranging all the makeup displays and mirrors while I was trying out lipstick and didn't say a word to me or look at me. I went to the register and told the girl I was making an exchange, and then she asked, "Have you shopped here before?" I responded, "Uh, yeah...I'm making an exchange," and then she seemed angry and replied, "I mean, did someone take your information?" How should I know?
After hearing I was exchanging something, the makeup rearranger kept watching me as the cashier opened the lipstick to see if it had been used. I totally understand the need to do this, but having the manager or someone staring at a customer from 4 feet away is super uncomfortable. None of the cashiers made eye contact once during the entire time I was at the register. Definitely won't be coming back here, because the complete lack of any sort of human emotion or niceties creeped me out and left me with a very unwelcoming feeling. -

This was for me as good as any museum.
The 6th floor houses their "color reform" carpet collection. These are old rugs which have been stripped of color with the only the design remaining. They are then over-dyed monochromatically with bright colors, transforming them into elegant works which marry the "old" designs with gorgeous bright modern hue. The result is each piece is a timeless work of art.
Light pours in from windows surrounding the floor allowing patrons to see these rugs in their full glory.
Sales personnel are knowledgeable and helpful.
The other floors at a glance looked good....each has its own style of furniture...and they offer some clothing and jewelry on the first floor.
If you appreciate beautiful vibrant colors and antique rugs, this is worthy of a look in NY, in my book as worthy as a trip to a museum.
I suggest allowing a few hours if you're the shopper type. You might want to send your mister to something he likes and you don't so you won't have to rush out. -

This place is indeed HUGE! I can't believe such a massive home furnishing place exists so close to Union Sq. There are 6 floors of rugs, couches, mirrors, decorations, kitchenware, chandeliers, even doggie treat (?!). I roamed for over an hour, completely overwhelmed. It was so hard to focus - you need to strategize if you really want to buy something here. Come with a goal of buying one piece to avoid impulse purchases that you might regret later. -

Manhattan, NYIf you are selling a coffee table for $4500 dollars it better be made out of the wood from Noahs arc. Sure this place had some amazing stuff. Things I have never seen before. However they market themselves as being economical and they are far from it. That would be like me marketing myself as good in bed. That is just not the case. Especially considering that I could not even afford to buy a bed from ABC stores. At first you hear the name and it makes you think of your childhood, sesame street, etc and then you see the wonderful furniture and you fall in love, then you see the price tag and its like Hey I am ABC and I do not care that we are in a recession. What if you are on a date and you do not want to look cheap and then you end up going home with a $5500 bunk bed.
Its a great store but it was too pricey. They should market themselves as a high quality furniture store not an economical one. -

Chicago, ILTruly amazing one-of-a-kind items at outrageous prices, but you will never regret at least going in to have a look. I was also impressed by their customer service. I wanted to return two glasses that were still being sold there and in their original packaging but several months PAST what their return policy allowed. The first guy wouldn't do it, so I asked to speak to the manager and Dondrill Glover wouldn't do it either, but at least she was nice and polite in explaining why not. She also offered to return it for store credit but as I don't shop there often and these were VERY expensive glasses, I wasn't inclined to take that offer. Unsatisfied with her response, I contacted their customer service manager, Tom Gates, whose contact information Dondrill gladly provided me. When I explained the situation to him in a voicemail, he quickly returned my call and asked for additional details. After presumably talking to Dondrill, he called me back again to tell me that they would make this exception for me because at the end of the day, they obviously value their customers and will do the right thing to keep them happy. I returned to the store and it was Dondrill who helped me with the return and was again, nice and polite in doing so. -

The things they sell here are indeed mindboggling and outrageously expensive. No words can express how many times my jaw dropped when I saw the price tags on some of the most simple home items. $199 for a ceramic mug? (that's right, no decimal) Well I hope Jesus drank from it.
I mean, yes, some of their stuff are unique and beautiful but I don't think I can justify spending that much $$$$. Aside from home furnishings, they also have a beauty product section on the first/ main floor. I haven't heard the names of these products before so I wouldn't buy it unless you do a little more research on your own (don't let the salespeople try to lure you into it either). This place is for people who have the money to spend -

I can literally spend a whole afternoon here looking through all of the products they showcase. ABC carpet, during the holidays, is known to have the best authentic looking Santa Claus for anyone to come and have their kids take pics with. He seriously looks like the Santa from the Coca Cola commercials. But you have to bring your own camera and be ready to snap away quickly! This place isn't for the bargain hunting penny bruisers. If you have the $$$ to drop for home accents and acessories, then this is the place to do it.Listed in: 2013 Yelp 100 Challenge
